wrapping exhaust

just wondering what's people take on this... thinking about wrapping my stock exhaust header with wrapping tape to help reduce under fairing temps... not sure if that's gonna do much or anything at all and if i should look elsewhere and not waste my time on this...

I wrapped the header and x-pipes on my HMF set-up. I don't have any input on not wrapping but with the wraps I haven't had any melting or damage issues. If I remember right, the roll of wrap was about $50.

+ 1,and greatly reduces that hot air coming out of the fairings on your legs!

+2 i have the same setup, and wrapped mine as well

I have not wrapped my Busa pipes YET. I will after I put in my 1397 kit. The wrap manufactuers claim a gain in hp. I never did a before an after dyno run where the conditions were the same except the wrap, so its hard to say if you get more hp. The bike will sound way better (less noise from engine compartment) and run way cooler. You cannot begin to believe how much cooler it will make the engine compartment. The air that dumps on your legs an feet will be way cooler. It surely improves radiator efficiency, and hot starting. I would think that this is a must do mod on anything other than a show bike.

i think i'm gonna give it a try. i don't think it's gonna do much on a stock exhaust system but for lowering the temps of the air that's coming to my legs thru the fairing.

Anyone ever have any breakage or cracking problems from using header wrap?

I had an air cooled vw with a merged collector many years ago. After wrapping the headers -a few weeks later, they virtually disintegrated under the wrap in spots. The pipes cracked in two in other words. Don't know why. Header warranty was voided cuz they were wrapped..........

cast iron shouldn't be wrapped esp if there are conditions where moiture may get trapped in the wrap for long period of time

wrapping the headers is supposed to do 2 things. 1)promote exhaust flow(i dont know how, only what ive been told) hence the hp gain. 2)keep things cooler around the headers.
i have always wrapped my headers on my race cars if for nothing more than to keep the heat down.
ive had mine wrapped on my busa for over a year with no problems.
wrap 'em tight, i always soak em in water because they wrap better when you do.
i dont see how moisture could be a problem unless your bike sits a lot. when the header gets hot its going to dry up the excess moisture on the header or in the wrap. my .02

Increases temp, thus increases pressure, thus increases velocity of gas.

Faster exhaust gas means more air sucked in on intake.

More air on intake=more HP.
