this is a good one for you gear heads. i recently changes the front gear to a 16t, which of course threw my speedo off, dont know how much but is a noticable difference. here is the question, since going down one in the front is like going up three in the back, if i go up three in the back wouldnt that fix the speedo problem??

seems like it would,

thanks

Just get a speedo healer. Then you can correct the speedo no matter what gearing you are running.

No, you'd have to go -3 in the rear, thus negating any gain from your -1 up front. Estimate 10% right now. If you're speedo says you're doing 70, you're probably closer to 63. (70 x 0.9 = 63). If you want to go 70, go about 77 on the speedo (70 x 1.1 = 77).

Why will the gear indicator not work with a speedo healer. They're separate systems & wiring and don't really affect one another.

I'd go with the GIPRO gear indicator red or blue display with built in smart switchable TRE.

The GIPRO and the Speedohealer are both plug & play.

With the stock setup 17/40 and the factory speedo off by 6.5%, your new gearing of 16/40 and factor in the factory error, your speedo is currently off as follows:

Total Speedo Error 14.4 %
Total Odo Error 7.4 %

If you add 3 teeth to the rear it is going to be off even more and be closer to:
Total Speedo Error 23 %
Total Odo Error 15.5 %

This was calculated on Speedhealer website and is generally pretty close. I found mine with 16/42 to be off

Total Speedo Error 19.8 %
Total Odo Error 12.8 %

So I calibrated my speedohealer at -16.5%. This should help you figure out approximately how far off you will be with different gearing changes:
