Yet Another New Member - What\'s the Buzz

Picked up a '00 in Blue and Silver a week ago Thursday, principally based on comments I've read here and at LA (sorry, a Kaw just isn't my thing.) Changed oil at 300mi. Should be going in for the 600mi next weekend. Everything on the bike has worked perfect. Question is: Does anyone get a buzz above 5000rpm. The bike seems smooth as silk up to about 4800rpm, but above that starts to develop a bit of buzz that can be felt in the hand grips. I'm still breakin' her in, so I can't really run it up above 5500 to see if it smooths out. Perhaps it's just my pipes starting to talk to me. Got any thoughts on this one?

OK, the buzz is normal. No problem. Will it smooth out at higher RPMs or stick around through redline. Seems like there's been alot of variation in the performance of the stock bikes that have been discussed here, and I'm trying to understand what kind of experience the majority has had. Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

Hey, EZ...it has some slightly buzzy spots in the rev band, and some smooth spots. 5,000 seems to be a buzzy spot, and it seems smoother to me above that. I'm usually not paying much attention to engine vibration up in the war zone, though. Things start happening way fast up there, long stretches of road get short in a real hurry.

Where are you located? I was on my way home from work on Thursday (?), heading south on Interstate 15, and saw a blue/silver one heading north by MCAS Miramar. Was it you, by any chance? I was on my GS1100, not the copper Busa, so I didn't bother to wave. That blue & silver looked nice out in the sunshine!

Hay Man, cruise by the Stir Crazy coffee shop in Hollywood any Saturday afternoon, 2 to 3 P.M.-ish. That's when the LABusas congregate there. Just show up and you're a member. 6917 Melrose Ave. Take US 101 north thru downtown LA, take the Melrose exit, go west on Melrose about 2 1/2 miles. No blue & silver ones there yet, come show off your baby!

Hey Bear thanks for the rebound. I live in the Pomona area. Probably wasn't me that you saw, although I'm out on the I15 with some regularity 'cause that's a good place to let her stretch her legs. Thanks for the invite. I was gonna come down to Stir Crazy yesterday to pay hommage to Duc, Queen Lynne, and all the rest; but I got stuck out at Chaparral and didn't make it back in time. Hope to see you there soon.

My "buzz" stopped when the stock exhaust was replaced with Akropovic Exhaust. The buzz is likely your stock exhaust system.
Try tigntening all exhaust support bolts, might help.

What I'm talking about isn't an audible buzz, it is secondary engine vibration, that you mainly feel through the handlebars. I doubt it is affected by the exhaust system, but I could be wrong. I'm keeping mine stock regardless.

I feel the buzz at 90mph in 6th. Not annoying, but noticeable. It's not there at 85, or at 95 and above. It's glassy smooth at triple digits, where you are supposed to run it.8=)

I had an audible buzz witch turned out to be the windscreen. Try this wile riding the bike, when the buzz starts, put your left hand on the windscreen. If the buzz stops you’ve found the prob. EZ fix. Take screen off and put felt stick on patches on the part that inserts into the front cowling. This will stop the vibration and eliminate the buzz.

Somebody posted a while back that the front fendor was loose from the factory. That would give you a buzz in your hands. I havn't noticed it in my 2k but I did tighten a few things when I first brought it home.

Let us know if you find the problem.

Gentlemen,

Exhaust support bolts tight.
Front fender tight.
Windscreen doesn't appear to be vibrating.

I'm supposed to be receiving a ZeroGravity Sport Touring screen this week which should eliminate the stock screen vibration issue.

I noticed that one of the original mag reviews mentions this same buzz, as do several of the repliers. Perhaps it's just a Busa engine "design feature." I'm going to have a good dyno shop dial it in after the 600mi service and see what gives. BTW anybody know a good dyno shop here in Los Angeles.
