Yoshi RS-3 Slip Ons

Got the dealer to install Yoshi RS-3s on my new 2000 Busa. I eagerly pushed the start button waiting for an ear-gasm and was underwhelmed with the sound. I honestly can't hear much of a difference. Had my buddy take it around the block and crank it, but still not the deep wail I was expecting. Short of buying another exhaust system is there anything else I can do? By the way, the blue and silver here in Cleveland, Oh really pulls the women!!!!!

screw the yosh slip ons.
get the two brothers...... known for the awesome low throaty sound....and now
clean factory like look. and light too.

do you have the race baffel or street? I had the street on my Yamaha and went to the race ($50 from Yosh) and gained a few db.s. The Yosh are quite either way compared to other systems.

If you have the Zyclone (street) slip ons, they are only about 90+db's, but are better quality than the race slip ons (which I have). You can get competition baffles for the Zyclone which are actually louder than the race slip ons!

Slips are slip ons, until you goto a 4-2-1 system you won't get a deep loud growl.
The busa looks alot better double piped!...honestly, who the hell needs more power?

Replacing the baffel is no big deal. Just take out the screws from the end caps remove them and exchange the baffel. Oh you will probably need a repack kit also. My dealer gave me one when I got the race baffel. I don't know the cost of a repack kit.

I'm exactly on the same boat as busa; these slip-ons look great, but they are pretty much a replacement can as far as sound. I read about the competition baffles a while back, but how easy is to replace them? Can you do it without removing the cans? And I don't want to screw up twice going overly loud this time: are they going to sound like the V&H S4? Thanks for any info.

Falcon, thanks for the reply buddy. Now another question: how do you repack? Is that self explanatory once you remove the baffles?
I only have like 1,500 miles on them. If it's necessary to do, is that possible to install the stainless steel wool instead of the fiberglass so I don't have to worry about repacking anymore?

valkex, be careful you use the right packing, I had a dude at a shop here tell me I could just go to home depot and get plain old 'glass, I repacked my gixxer V/H and it's louder than ever, freaking cop-magnet.

Thanks man. It's frustrating to install an exhaust without hearing it first. I'm going to leave the cans alone until I hear one with the competition baffles first. It's supposed to be between the race and mine. I haven't heard a race either. I put cobra pipes on my valkyrie and it sounds like a jet; way louder than I wanted. Go figure!

Repacking is simple, and yes you will need new packing because when you take the packing from around the street baffel it will tear up or at least mine did. You don't want to fool around much with the fiberglass as it can cause great skin irritation. Unroll the glass in the floor and put the baffel on one end and just roll it up like a blanket. The glass will be longer than the baffel...don't cut it. When you put your baffel in the can bolt the end (motor end) down first. Then push the excess fiberglass down into the tube. A loose packing will give more sound, but will burn out quicker. After cramming in all the excess put the end cap on and bolt it down. I suggest you purchase all new bolts when you get the baffel. I am not sure but seems like I saw on the Yosh web site a list of db's for each of their pipes. Also something you might be interested in....Yosh will install the race baffel and repack it with a lobor charge of $10. I think you can do it yourself...it really isn't that much of a job.
I have never used SS wool. Can't answer your question about that.

Yea, it was on the site as I remembered. this is taken from their site:

Q. How loud are Yoshimura exhausts?
A. Since sound files are hard to hear online, it is best to compare them to other brands. The Yoshimura RS-3 Zyclone systems are one of the quietest systems on the market today that still offer good performance gains with minimal restriction. RS-3 Zyclone systems are 90-92dB while RS-3 Race systems are 95dB. All measurements are taken at the industry standard of 20" away from the turndown tip at a 45-degree angle out from the tip. The motor is revved and held at 4,000 rpm in neutral. A reading is then taken and recorded. Round Zyclone systems are 95dB while round race systems are 101-105db depending on model.

Falcon, so you DO have to remove the cans, uh? I was hoping it could be done just removing the back cap. You mean to replace the 4 allen bolts that hold each cap in place? Most of mine are losing the chrome anyway. Can you order all that stuff from YOSH directly or a dealer has to be involved?
If removing the cans is the only way to go, I'm going to need another pair of gaskets as well.
Thanks man!

I just bought a set of the Yosh RS3's. They are quiet compared to other slip ons I have heard on the Busa. I recently heard a set of D&D's on a Busa and it was lovely. That bla bla bla bla sound and a rumble that shook your guts.

Hey maybe one of you would like to trade a set of your "quiet" cans for a set of louder ones? I've got some straight thru designed D&D's that I wish weren't so loud. Just a suggestion.

Yea, you have to remove both ends of the cans. I don't know but I suppose you can order direct form Yosh, but if you have a decent dealer he will sell to you cheaper than you can buy direct. Usually when you buy direct, if you are not a dealer, they will charge you suggested retail. My dealer always gives me at least 20% off.
