Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance...

Written in the early 70's it is a good book but not an easy read. It is a inquiry into values and the author's journey to recover from the effects of treatment for mental illness.

I have read the book a few times over the years. First read it in the early eighties. It is what inspired me to take up motorcycling. Really puts life into perspective. Pirsig was a great thinker with some very interesting ideas.
Would highly recommend the book.

+1 on recommending the book...it isn't a quick, easy read but is definitely worth the time and effort :beerchug:

Reading the book now. If you have a background in philosophical studies, you'll understand it more easily, however, it's still a good read, regardless. It promotes thought and introspection which is always a good thing.

Very appealing to the places of the mind/heart wafting fragarences of stale boundaries once set by those in charge of being our over lords....we seldom have time to go there.

Veeerrry interesting...:beerchug:

I came across this link today while reading several riding blogs and thought some of you might enjoy it.

The book, loosely uses motorcycle maintenance as analogies and metaphors to allow Pirsig the convoluted tail of a ride with his son.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: Index

While attending college, I had to write a descriptive paper on a section of that book. It is certainly not easy reading, as mentioned....

This is beyond a great book.

there are books written about this book its so good.

there are also books written by others about the route he followed, and how it will change your life no matter who you are.

Its incredible.

Highly recommend the book, as well as the ride. Its on my list of "routes to travel before I die"

+1 for the topic

Oh, and thanks for posting the link. I'll print it(at work) and re-read. It's been a few years....
