Well here she is all painted up ready for a new year it took many back breaking hours to sand and get all the parts smooth enough to paint .
We had a lot of cold weather this year it didn't seem to want to stop.
I had fun doing this project , i didn't use the paint i wanted since this is my first total paint job ( which was kandy ).

paint was from ppg i spent 230.00 bones in paint and filters and such .

i bought plastic and piping to make a temp. paint booth so as not to get dust and bugs in me paint .
i think i spent a total ball park of maybe 350.00 bucks .
friend offered to paint it for 1200.00

you decide did i make the right choice?

Paint looks real nice in the pics. Prep is the key. Great work. Nothing better than sayin, "yep, I painted it"

Are you going to put decal's back on?

Wow! That's was a lot of work,,,, Looks Great!!!:wow:

The only thing I can see that it needs,,,, is more picture for us!!

That looks really awesome! Well done!

What method did you use to smooth and prep the inners? I am planning on painting mine this upcoming winter and any detailed information that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. :please:

Looks Good.

When you get a chance - please photograph it in the sunlight so we can get a real good look at the true color and the whole bike.

Also more details on the painting process like -
Did you prime anything?
What kind of gun did you use?
How many coats did you give it?
What grit sandpapers did you use?
How smooth did you have to make the plastic inners before painting?
Any problems or things to look out for - for someone wanting to do this too?
ETC.

Nice job - Looks like you made a wise decision, to do it yourself.
Happiness comes from a job well done.

Hey guys sorry it took so long to post back been working alot lately ..

so with that said ...

80 220 400 1500 2000 grits sandpaper
hvlp gun from lowes 49.99
wifes dining room table and her side of the bed room for parts

sanded every piece with 1500 and 220 grit sandpaper ...the 1500 to ruff the pieces and the 220 to get those stubborn paint lines (two tones lines)
some minor bondo for minor imperfections like rock chips etc.

i started this all about middle of winter , spent many hours sanding and getting stupid stickers off ..and on the stickers they are a pain in the buttox so i saved the ones on the tank for last .

for the tank stickers i took a razor blade to score the outer edge to release the sticker ...as seen on a youtube vid .....ya did not work ....so i got my trusty 220 grit and sanded till gone feathered out the edges and ready for primer.

the inner plastics were also a pia ...

sand the inner pieces with 80 grit till somewhat flat ..meaning all ruff perforated edges are gone then follow with 220 then 600 wipe everything down with either rubbing alcohol or prep wipes or similar then prime

i used three coats of primer on every piece ...a little overkill but i wasn't using high build ..

the other thing i would like to tell you is when you sand the inners you will have a lot of little tiny plastic pieces on the parts afterwards and they are hard to get rid of (plastic gets hot you get the idea hopefully if not just do it this way you will thank me ) ...i suggest using wet sandpaper and really get it smooth ...but not tooooooo smooth or your paint wont stick .. if you get them primed and you have pieces of plastic sticking out go over it again with 600 till smooth after a couple of days to let the paint cure
then give it another coat of primer

when you get the base coat on i sprayed 2 coats ..let it dry a bit and wipe it down or blow the piece off to get rid of dirt and debris cant stress that enough ..it sucks when you get to clear and you see little hairs or dirt ...and you wont see it till its too late ..

well i know i suck at writing things out but hopefully ive explained some things for you people that want to do what i did ..

i am in the process of color sanding and buffing ..by hand .. and will be posting sun pics soon .

no i wont be putting decals on ... i like when people pull up and go ... hey is that a 1000 or 600

yep sure is
