Radar Detctors

I also use the Escort 8500, it HAS paid for it self on more than one occasion. I was in the cage tonight on the highway and got a KA signal, it got pretty loud and the bars were increasing; but I never saw a HWY Patrol unit. At another time tonight I actually saw the patrol car( had someone pulled over) before I even recieved a signal! Has this ever happened to any one else?

I was looking on the WWW and noticed that the government is eventually going to ban radar detectors in all states. There is a web site( I can't find it right now) but it tells of the locations of known radar traps across the US. I believe these points could be integrated into some GPS units with a warning
theres a new cobra out that has gps that tracks and alerst you of photo radar and redlight cameras when your coming up on them

heres the link for it at crutchfield you have to hit the read more button to tell you about the gps radar

i have the escort s1 cordless for my bikes and use the 8500 x50 in my truck.the 8500 is better but the s1 cordless is almost as good and i like the fact that i dont need the cord.battery life is about forty hours so keep an extra set of aa,s under your seat

That's funny, I do just the opposite. No use having a cordless on the bike because the unit needs to be plugged in to power the HARD system. The Escort S2 bounces from car to car...

I use the 8500 X50 as well along with the H.A.R.D. system and I'm in love. If I leave home without it, I feel naked. I've never used any detector other than Escort but I've also never had a ticket from radar when the unit was on. Doesn't do any good under a laser  attack. The biggest threat outside the city limits on country back roads is most of the Sherrif cars equipped with moving radar and my 8500 picks them up every time. As for my use, I don't really care what direction the signal is coming from, I just want to know they are in the vecinity.

I mount my detector on the side of my bike where it has a clear unobstructed view of the road. I can't see the radar detector so the HARD system is a must for me.

Man , I like the V1 , I use it in the car , but on a bike wouldnt you want the cheapest thing you can find that still does a fair job? I'm sure on the bike it has a chance of falling , getting rained on etc.. Just a Cobra would do fine , 1/2 the price of a V1.

seems to be the trend... the 9500i also does this and is user programmable to these locals (push the smart cord button 3 times to store a spot)

+500.....
Escort Passport/Bel, Less money, same or better performance as the V1!
All three are outstanding detectors and yes the V1 tells you where the signal is (note all 3 will alert you).
Only the Escort can permanately eliminate false signals using GPS (the other 2 will drive u crazy wondering if its the same false alert or something new). Really comes down to driver pref as all will do what you'd expect for that kind of money... Now if your interested in any of the Escorts or Bel detectors hit me with a PM, the oRg has a connection.

I got a lot of stuff I still want for the Busa, But $$$$$$$$$$$$ is real tight.. So guys help me sell my GSX1100F Katana.. I'll put you in my will...

have not seen a price even close to what I got here..

So whn you park your bike to go into work does everyone take there radar detector in with them or just leave it on the bike. Thieves really chap me so I try to avoid giving them opportunities.

I've had a Passport 8500 for sometime, works real good as long as the LEO has the radar on,it picks it up waaaaay out there.Theres really no help for instant on, unless youre quick on the brakes before he can get a lock.

As long as I put my Geeza cover over the bike, I will leave it there.. otherwise it goes under the seat. (do not care to drop the thing carrying it around)

Most of the time, if they've already got someone they shut it off. I go by em all the time with someone pulled and it doesn't go off. But sometimes it'll go off, then I'll pass em and like 30 sec. later they blow past me with blue lights goin and then once they're off to the side of the rd with the unlucky motorist not using a radar detector the warning goes away. (they shut it off)

Go ahead and get a cobra. . . You'll be sorry you did the first time you pass a cop and then hear the alert. And as for the falling. No, mine doesn't cause I bolted it to the windscreen. I'll get some pics up in a little bit.

Velcro on a stem stand holds amazingly well. Someone makes a velcro strap for added security, I can't remember who. You can also buy a waterproof plastic case for the Bel and Escort but a sandwich bag and rubber band works well too.

I use indistrial strength velcro right behind the wind screen on the space above the guages. It does not move! I originally used the sunction cups but it kept falling off on rough roads, so I only use that in the cage>

When you guys say Bel, does that mean Beltronics? I have a Beltronics unit bolted to my Puig and it has saved me many times...I have noticed the "instant on" feature does not have nearly the detection range of an "already on" unit...you just have to hit the binders more quickly. Of course, alot of little town around here have those stationary units at their city limits to warn you to slow down, my detector goes off and always freaks me out.

Keeps it in place really well! Barely bounces at all. I had it mounted with the suction cups and although it never fell off, it would bounce so bad that sometimes on fairly large bumps it would bounce up and smack the windscreen. I think it may have damaged the internals. . .I don't think I'm getting the range I use to. I might have to buy a new one.
