I have some good pics of 15's chewed to grap, but you are correct if chain is well adjusted and maintained as you would at a track it will be ok. 15 for normal street, NO WAY.

Yes who needs stinken gas mileage!! you want the mileage leave the bike alone.
 
In my past experience with dirtbike sprocket changes, its always better to have as large a front sprocket as you can to give it more links to engage. This prolongs chain/front sprocket life. If you change sprockets, change the rear. A one tooth change on the front is equal to three on the rear. A larger front is the same as a smaller rear which means fewer RPM/MPH or higher top speed.

Gooda advise, the same holds true on the Busa, with combos ront and back.
