I am aware of two types that look like that. On the first you just remove the set screw and the center pin falls out. The set screw will need to be removed almost all the way. The other type requires you to loosen the set screw and then screw the center pin out. Usually the second type has a cap at the top to cover the hex head. Both types sometimes include an inner spring that requires a final alignment to provide close assist. I think you have the first type. I don't think the arrow means anything.

If the center does not come out easily you might try a hex in the top hole.

I don't know how....but when you figure it out can you tell us how and why you got locked INSIDE the house? I'm dying to know. :beerchug:

Actually the more I think about the arrow the more I think it might be a close assist model. I still think bythe look of it that it drops out.

That's the prob, that's not a set screw...

PS... As big as that mechanism is, you are still going to have one heck of a time getting that door out. The depth of the jamb is going to make it difficult.

yes it is a close assist model. loosen set screw and tap pin out with hammer and small phillips or nail

Is the door even going to come off if you get the pin out?
It looks like the door has to be open for you to take it off the hinges, not?

Is it a pin that goes all the way thru? If it is when you knock it out you are going to find that the model is most likely close assist. The pin holds the mechanism spring tight after initial winding.

yes i bet the pin goes all the way through for the assist thing. may have to drive it out first

It's not a set screw on the side.

I did take a screw out of the top, where you see the arrow. Tried banging the pin from top and bottom...no go!
