02 custom turbo just fell in my lap

poker run to the keys and back ? friends used to do it every year you should try to make it man you would have a blast..the bike does look steller man would be a nice piece to sit in the garage and look at all winter :beerchug:

Check in with BrendanP. He can give you some real advise about buying bikes off ebay. One of his aquaintences bought a bike off ebay, same senerio. Drop Brendan a PM, it may be time well spent?

Personally, I would much prefer to spend that 12G's on a new busa off the shelf.

Owning a turbo, I can say, you really need to check everything. I have though about selling my Turbo which is in great running condition but have not. I would not sell it with out someone doing a complete inspection. It is not worth the hassle to both parties it you don;t do the inspection.

FOR A TURBO, I WOULD LOOK AT WHAT HAS BEEN CHANGED IN THE ENGINE AND TRAN.

Billet output shaft
Ti valve springs
new valves
spacer
Who tuned

I remember seeing this one on eBay last week or so, and thinking how great it looked.
Not too comfy with the whole turbo deal, but yeah, sounds like the guy has plenty of bucks and just lookin' to unload it.

If you don't want it.....

I bought my last busa off ebay, didnt see it until it was dropped off at my house.couldnt have been happier with it,lots of phone conversations over weeks not days, weeks, I didnt buy it off a bid, contacted seller directly last time and this time.I found over the last couple of yrs, most busa owners are pretty str8 up ppl...just look around this board. ALTHOUGH THERES ALWAYS ONE...HAHAHA

ck'd out velocity web site, their stage 1 kit is pretty str8 fwd ,doesnt req any mods whatsoever to motor,no spacer req,no valve work nothing, good for up to 10lbs(i think it said) without adding water inj and spacer, but that only gets you another 15hp.im cool with what it has now

A total beauty....I sold my Midnight Falcon '02 last winter as well.
This monster would be the **** of anybody's walk, for sure!

Keep us posted, bro....I'm rootin' for ya!

Steven

P.S. I bought 2 Hayabusa's off of eBay myself. Had them shipped via haulbikes.com and both deals couldn't have gone better!

I'm from Jersey so I don't trust a soul...

You have to ask yourself what your intentions will be for the bike. Does it fit your needs. The bike looks good for a show bike but as a street bike it may have a little to much "fluff". Like others stated it's the hardware details that are very important when considering a turbo bike. Since he's running stock compression he may not have done anything to bulk up the engine and only slapped/bolted on the turbo system.

btw toss the intake scoops, nitrous system, and raked tree.

I think i put maybe 3k mi on my 02' (had it for 18months) dont ride far,Im more into the show part, although would love a track bike but wouldnt use a busa for that gixxer1k

NOS isnt hooked to the motor, just purge effect, scoops are useless and im guessing just added because he could, and the raked tree, not sure what that is,looks like it was cut,im waiting o a call from him around noon,i have some questions,

and again,as per velocity racing web site, nothing need to be done to motor for stage 1kits.its ment to be just "slapped/bolted"on

appreciate your comments though, they are all helpful

Devil, If there's one thing to make or break this buy.. Check this, see if the turbo is internally wastegated or externally wastegated. The internally gated turbo's are prone to run hot since they do not vent the excess boost properly. Velocity's base stage1 is the internal and is something to avoid unless the people building this bike opted for the external wastegate. I learned the hard way on this and have heard this from other tuners when I asked about the differences. Now, if you wanted to upgrade the turbo to a external gate you could. That bike is nice, don't fear a turbo bike. Take your time a read up on turbo's and people's posts on them.

why would Velocity design this way if its a known problem,I mean they are pretty well known but I will find out either way

Thanks again bro.

Yes you do not need ( NOT REQUIRED) the mods, but they will certainly help with the life of the bike. The point is how it was driven. You could easily bend a stock output shaft.

These are all things I ran into over the years. Even with a great Turbo you will be putting the bucks in it to maintain it well. JUST BE CAREFUL.

haha...thats what I mean, got guys that say "will be putting the bucks in it to maintain it well" and then I ve heard from others who say things like turbos are great for motors because they do nothing more then give it what it wants....more air! and they are no maintainance at all . stopped at TOCC on the way home, owner owns a 08 turbo busa,I asked about maintainance, his replay "what maintainance"

gonna sleep on it another nite

I don't know why companies still use internal gated turbos. Almost all I've seen run hot, and the one's that don't are running way way rich.

A waste gate vents exhaust gas not boost, I'm sure that's what you meant but could you explain how that will cause the bike to run hot?

My MCXpress kit had an air-air intercooler in front of the radiator along with an internal gate and I don't recall it running hot or rich. I have since added an external gate which, hands down, is better for boost control, but I would much rather have a turbo bike with an internal waste gate and secondary injectors instead of a bike with an external waste gate and a FMU.

You can get an 02 for about $6000 these days maybe less if you really shop. Then mod it the way you like. Then again you can buy a BRAND NEW 08 for less than that.
