Probably gonna bite the bullet and have the shop look it over ‍

Sounds like a good plan....tracing a noise such as this is a tactile thing where one would have to be hands on...

It does sound like a bearing.

If it's a rod bearing, there will be metal in the oil. I'd drain it and take a look.

When I did the original pil change, I saw some metal shavings, very minimal and no chunks, nothing out of the normal. It was a bit more than one would normally see, but wasn't anything crazy. For a bike that ran fine 3 years ago, to now just back up and running, I was expecting some metal shaving as it's an 03...

Sitting does weird things...if the engine was in an environment where it got warm and cold from ambient temperature, condensation gets in there and can eat bearings....
