OK, first off let me say im on my Dads name here. he has an 07 Busa with TRE and K&N airfilter. the bike is already rediculously fast. Now to the hard part. i just got my first street bike and its a Kawasaki EX250. we try and go riding but it seems to be more like me following! i dont think its fun anymore to ride with him because im always catching up at the red lights. he told me the best thing he could do is tie a rope to the back of his Busa to the front of my EX. ANY real suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Remove 3 of his spark plugs and fill his hump and tail section with lead!

No really how bout get your own Busa?

Have to tried Super unleaded?

Mate I went through this when I had my CBR250RR... mate's had 1000's etc, and yes, they were quicker than me... But now, after a few years of riding lower powered bikes, I've got a Hayabusa...

In my opinion, don't worry about it... you are learning your craft! Just be safe, keep rubber side down and enjoy the experience of riding... that's all it's about!

I was in the same boat you were in 5 years ago... Its like growing up, take it slow. Dont feel like you have to get a bigger bike just to keep up with who ever your riding with. If they dont have the since to keep it to a level that you can keep up with because they have a bigger bike then maybe you shouldnt ride with them. In re-reading what you typed, you say its your dad leaving you in the dust... talk to him... tell him to go easy on the throttle so you can keep up. Your riding experience is starting out on the right foot being on a 250. Dont let it end up on the wrong foot just because you think you need a 1000cc bike to keep up with those that are faster. Ride your ride and move up when you feel you are ready and have the experience.

+10000000000000000000000000 on what Sloto said!!!!!

Play safe till you are ready and have plenty of seat time under your belt!! Plus, those little 250's can be a real blast to play with!! Have fun with it man!! Just be safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take your time and learn to take full advantage of the bike you're on. You will be a better rider for doing so. I have been told, and definately believe that there are only 2% of cycle riders that can take full advantage of a 600. Learn the basics and control. Take your time. There is always something to learn.

Just pin the gas!

Or...

Run the redlight and let your dad sit back and wait!

Do a trackday with him. I guarantee you that'll be the "great equalizer."

lol, good call on the trackday.

I think there is something to be said about how a smaller bike "bulks up" when it rides with bigger bikes. We always throw props to the Rebel guys who ride with our 1100-1800 group.

So just keep it up, a bike is a bike. Don't judge the size of your bikes wank because you can't hang right now.

Just FYI, I finally was able to work my DAD and upgrade to '07 6R Ninja. Lost $800.00 on the trade-in (Kawasaki EX 250)...oops! Well, I did get 500+ miles in and my motorcycle indorsement too. Anyway, thanks to all for your help.

take your time...learn on what you got..when you get time and miles under your belt...remember...he hides his keys somewhere..... ;)

"...he told me the best thing he could do is tie a rope to the back of his Busa to the front of my EX..." Waaahaaaaaaaaa.........uhhh...uuhhh....waaaaaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa !!!! That's a good one !!!

Just buy him a case of beer...

...and he'll be "handing" you the keys !!!!!!

one of the best pieces of advice i ever received was master what you have now and move up as you are able...this works with riding, driving, shooting, dating (just kidding

)
just be careful out there and don't try riding past your current abilities just to "keep up"...you can always learn something from every person you ride with- some will teach you to be a better rider and some will be examples of all the things you don't want to be
there are basically two ways to get faster:
1) buy a bigger, more powerful bike that you may not be ready for yet or
2) get out and ride...the more you do that, the better, faster, and more fluid you will get

Well Said, Well Said...

And it is a sign of maturity in this business considering what others have to say.

I've heard it said that it is more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow...you learn a lot more too. I only got a 'busa because I was running my sv650 wide open so much. Now I have a new normal to deal with. Knocks me back a few notches in the learning curve but I'm looking forward to it.

EDIT: OK, I lied. I got the 'busa because it's the best looking bike on the planet.
