08 Hump

Took the hump off the bike last night to see how much use I could make of the space inside. There is a small oval cut out, I was able to fit my emergency CO2 tire kit through, but not much else. I'm sure there will be some nice hinged, etc. mods coming. Here's what I thought until then. Note the 4 outer most bolts that hold the cover on.

Under the Hump you can see the stuff I have stored and a Jones Plug I use to power accessories. Currently powers my illuminated sliders, can be unplugged to power small compressor etc. Will do extensive write up on that later.

The 4 hump cover mounting bolts are M6 X 12mm with 10mm Heads

The four bolts attach to clip-on caged 6mm nuts.(clipped on to the top of 4 standoffs)

The clip-on caged 6mm nuts can be carefully removed with a screwdriver.

Briefly thought about drilling/tapping the 6mm nuts to 1/4-20 but, they are too large in diameter, won't work.
Ill run out today and look into some 1/4-20 clip nuts and LOW profile 1/4-20 knobs. There isnt much room for bolt/knob clearance.
The pic is from McMaster-Carr (business to business sales only), they have 1/4-20 Clip ons and low profile knobbed screws. Maybe Lowes/Home depot has something that will work.

Picked up 1/4-20 x 3/4 Wingbolts at Home Depot .86ea. U-channel speed nuts (1/4-20) at Lowes .92ea. Ill see if I can smush some raingear in the trunk tonight. (ILL NEED TO CHECK WINGBOLT CLEARANCE).

alright, i'm new here and never had a busa before, but, i dont understand this mod, are the screws too long and the depth takes up usable space? or does the piece in the first pic bolt to the hump itself? and is the hump just like the solo cowls from the gixxers that unlock with the key? i used the space on my gixxers to store my rainsuit and look forward to doing the same with my '08.

Finished up last night. There ARE some clearance issues. I had to angle the trailing edge wingbolts (as seen in pic) to clear.
Saved all my original hardware. NOT really pacified with this, but it will do until Tiger gets the more user friendly hinged trunk mod out for the 08's.
At least I fit my nylon windbreaker in there to grab and put over my leather jacket if needed.

The only real point of the mod is ease of accessability.
There is usable space inside that hump. It is difficult to access through the small oval on the 08.
    Tiger Racing made a mod (for Gen1 Busa's) that allowed the (normally bolted in place) cover on the bottom of the hump, to pivot on a hinge, for quick easy access.
    I think most see this as valuable real estate for small storage, as long as you can access without alot of hassle.
    My wingbolt quik fix is just a stop gap measure, until the better mod arrives.
