1397 big bore

I sent you a PM, and heres 2 links for you to look at!

not as big a heat prob with the 1397 vs the 1430 and you can save headgaskets with the 1397 as well. Octane requirements are depending on seveal other factors not just the CC of the engine. You have several compression ratio's to choose from, lower the comp ratio the lower the octane you can run and not have problems.

I am running 92 with the 13.5/1 with no knocking at all. I was gonna try the 89 on the next tank and see what it does. I let ya' know. I am away this weekend but the bike needs gas when I get home. I need to wrap the headers, there is way more heat coming off of the bike with the 1397 and Hindle Race headers...

We tuned your bike with 87!

Is it truly 13.5-1 compression? That seems a bit high for 87 octane doesn't it?

How much HP on 87?

(edubb1971 @ Jun. 21 2007,04:15) thinking of getting the 1397 kit. Any place I should go through, or does it matter?
If you wanted , you could buy a set of pistons then send them along with your block straight to Millenium Technologies for bore and recoat of the Nickasil . That way you could be assured each final bore was to size of the piston as some can vary .

Just a tip . Do your homework on setting the compression . Many are not running quite near the compression they think or have been told they are .

Example JE 1397 flat-top put together with one OEM base gasket and zero to minimum head resurface
= 12.86 static compression with .048 total deck clearance where .038 would be much closer to optimum for several reasons .

Change nothing but pulling the base gasket out and you get 13.46 static . That's a hell for lot of compression for pump gas and if it pings it's hard on bearings, ring lands and destabilizes the ring pack lessening ring seal and making for potential blowby longer term .

Myself , I like the reverse dome Wiseco 1396 for the street . You can hit 12.55-12.65 with those while obtaining right at .038 piston to head clearance and the tighter the quench ,the better they go . Just mill the head to target a higher compression ratio than above .

Cam it while your at it

Just wanted to share some experiences with APE's 1397cc + JE 13:1 piston kit. My bike has done now almost 10000 kilometers (over 6000 miles) with the overbored cylinder and is running great. I have custom made cams (model from Yoshi's GSX-R 1000 k4 Type-S), ported head and so on, 200hp and around 150Nm of torque on the backwheel. We don't have that hot in Finland but atleast I haven't seen any heat problems in 20°C - 25°C. Starts well with stock battery+starter setup. Great "allrounder"!

+1 .... Just less miles

And seems to be quite fast as well, 325km/h (202mph) on a speed testing day last Saturday. Length of the field was  ~1.55 miles total, 1.12 miles for acceleration and rest for braking.

And btw, quickest Kawasaki was ZX-12R with 1427cc engine, 311km/h (193mph). None of the ZZR1400 (or ZX-14 as you know it) didn't manage to even pass the 300km/h, quickest 295km/h. Pathetic.
