200 tire

At least with car tires, not all tires are created equal, and the sizes aren't alwaya apples to apples

A 325 Mickey Thompson Drag Radial measures more like 350mm+ across.

I have seen 275 street tires vary like an inch from one brand or product line to another.
And this is true also. When i bought my nittos I really wanted the MT's because they usually measure wider but they were on back order for months. I think the 315 MT's are like 12.7" true width.

I dont see why some are being jerks about this. My 315 sumi's run about 12.6" wide and my 315 Nitto's run about 12.1" wide. Its a noticeable difference and some brands run wider or narrower than others. It was a simple question and we may need to rethink who the real dimwits are.

You don't have the room to run a wider than 200 tire.

What i think about all the sizing variations is that yall all are stupid. Different profiles will make the tire look fatter or smaller. Motorcycle tires might have different lean angles which change the appearence but they will always measure the indicated size at the widest point.

The same with car tires. They might appear wider in wisth but its because they have a wider contact patch. The tire must measure 200mm at the widest point in the tire. Be it at the bead of the tire or at the tread. It must measure 200mm.

"It's good to note here that you should only fill a tire to the motorcycle manufacturer's recommended level. Besides under inflation, one of the biggest mistakes people make with their tires is to overfill them to the maximum level indicated on the sidewall. This leads to poor handling and premature wear. If in doubt, either consult your owner's manual, contact your local dealer, or go to the tire manufacturer's website. Most include the recommended pressure for each motorcycle, along with other tire options. And be sure to measure pressure when the tire is cold. Measuring hot will skew the numbers."

I've seen many examples of car tires that vary substantially in width from one brand to another. Obviously, mounting a tire on a wider rim can change the width measurements and all manufacturers don't stipulate the same standard rim width for a given size either. The tread width varies widely as well for tires with the same sidewall width. Some have a shoulder with more meat. I do believe bike tires are held to tighter standards, since a 5 to 8 mm variation could mean a fitment problem. A 190 tire rating usually means it is not over 190mm wide when mounted on the recommended wheel width. I've seen 180mm tires range from 175 to 181 and a couple of 170mm tires that were more like 163mm. I haven't measured any 200mm tires, though, so no help there. I did get a chuckle out of the which 200mm tire is widest question, but there are likely variations, so I guess there must be a w i d e s t one. Back when I measured such things, bridgestones tended to run large and pirelli & metzelers tended to run small for their rated size.

Swampers are one that come to mind...

I still believe that most tires will adhere to the standard sizing charts, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were no known anomalies.

On a off note, 195/70/17 can be found in a road race configuration..
So, I guess anything is possible.
Swampers are exactly what I was thinking of.
This is true

200 is 200 no matter what brand you choose.

Not always.... Yes, the standard is just as everyone has pointed out. However, some of our O.E.M tires are larger than the 190mm advertised. I.E. Shows 190/50/17, but measures a true 198mm wide. So, I think what I hear being asked is are there manufactures who also do this with their standard line of tires. I don't know of any personally but that doesn't mean they don't exist...
I'm aware that they're are tires that state 190mm and are actually 198mm, but again 200mm is 200mm. He didn't ask which 200mm tire is actually bigger than it states.

You would have to know that is what he meant when he asked that though. I immediately assumed he meant actual size when I read that. It wouldnt make sense for him to be asking it the way people took it. That would be the same as what is the widest 12" ruler?

I'm currently running a 200 Shinko R003, only because it came on the bike. It looks like crap IMO. Doesn't look wider, it looks more ballooned out.
