Took my stock Busa to track today. Couldnt get the launch downpat yet....Im used to my ZX-9...You know, launch it at about 8 grand.
Doesnt work well with the busa.

Anyway, I cut a 1.805 60', 330'- 4.489,1/8th-6.658@113.35mph,1000'- 8.538, 1/4- 10.14 @ 139.76mph.

I believe I can drop close to 3/10ths off of my 60' once I get used to it. This should put me into the 9's and around 6.30's in the 1/8th. Busas' are freakin' BAD.

Have a pic of timeslip, a little fuzzy at

Great job Busta.
You can run a nine. I have a 99 that is lowered and has one tooth of the front that has run a 9.75@145mph. 1.62 60ft time on that pass. Granted, that is my best ET of all time for the Busa. High nines are not a problem once you get your 60ft. times down.

BusTa Kow,

10.14 is a great et considering a 1.80 60'. A little more practice,and you will easily be in the nines,no easy feat......congratulations!

How much do you weigh? How fast have you gone on the zx-9?

Wronglane, I weigh 195lbs , that doesnt include helmet and leather coat.

I never took my ZX-9 through the 1/4mile but did run a 6.91 at 108.69mph in the eighth.
I did have a muzzy pipe on it and a 1.7_ something 60'.

To get good 60ft. times you need to lower the bike, this can be done very easily with a Schnitz lowering kit which is just two links for the rear shock after you install them you have 3 different holes which change the ride height from stock to 3 1/2 lower, takes about 5 min. to change. The front is even easier with a Schnitz lowering strap, this strap stays mounted on bike and all you do is grab the front brake and pull on the strap, drops the front about 3 in. This really works,I went to the drag strip sunday and rode 4 busa's one stock, one Micron full system, PC2, one stock with D&D slipons, one stock with 16T sprocket Two Bros slipons PC2, lowered, the lowered bike is good for 2 to 3 tenths in the 60ft. best ET 6.27 at 115mph 60ft. 1.52 This bike still has the stock clutch set-up, just launch above 4,000 RPM and it works great as the 60ft. shows

Max, I agree with you. I have a friend who has had his for a year. He weighs 210lbs and cut a 1.50 60' bone stock. 1.60's very easily. Im sure the lowering helps alot but I hope I can get 1.60's or maybe 1.50's without it. Looks like traction might be more of a problem when going lower than this.
Is it?

I saw one little guy cut low 1.40's with his lowered.

Bus Ta,

My best 60's resulted from launching @ 3-4K rpm. They were high 1.5's, and I could do better. Bike is stock motor, sprocket/links/ and clutch mod. When I leave at more rpm, 60's get slower. Bike has a LOT of torque down low. This works for ME, everyone is different......

make sure you keep track of your splits and then you can figure out what it wants or what you do wrong.I've found the 60 to 330 is very critical on a bike that stands up as easy as the busas.

Dave, I believe that is what was happening to me. I couldnt control it though. I am so used to twisting my ZX-9 up. My buddy kept telling me to launch about 4 grand. I put it on 4 grand at the line but soon as the lights came down I twisted the fu*k out of it. Haha. Couldnt help it, Im gonna work on my self control this week.

Seems the busa clutch shakes a bit when launching over 5K.

Bus Ta,

Done that too, set it @ 4K, soon as yellows came down, nailed it...Stood it straight, shut off, came down so hard it BOUNCED up again. NOT fun!!!

If you don't have the clutch mod I think ya have to leave over 4K or 5K to get it to slip. I have the mod, and HIGHLY recommend it. Makes the clutch what it should be. I didn't even take mine to the track until I changed it, there is no feel stock. Also Motorhead is right, you have to get the 1st couple of gears right. I didn't think the bike would be as fussy on shift points, but it is.

Dave

I slipped the clutch but I think I slipped it too much at to high of an rpm. Front end never offered to come off the ground.
Didnt get enough runs to experiment with shift points. Has anyone figured out the best shift point approximately for a stock setup?
I wont be stock much longer. I just wanted to get a baseline. One more trip should do it.
