2000 Busa tensioner Failure

Walked into my local Suzuki dealer to talk horsepower with the head Mechanic here in Orlando.I noticed a a Blue/Siver Busa on the bike platform with the Motor out of it.It was there for a Cam Chain tensioner failure. The Tensioner used had the 3 pink dots(the same kind they use for the recall). It's time for me to get a Manual Tensioner.

what, screw you?? No thanks!!

Diclining gracefully Nuts ;)

Thought Mr Cam chain tensioner head was going to try and sort something out about the Cam chain tensioner adjuster......

I have a 00. At eight hundred miles the tentioner started making noise. It has three pink dots. It is junk. I put on the manual tentioner before the stock one gave out. It is a good investment as long as you know how to adjust it.Buy one before you wind up with a srewed up motor.

Took valve cover off and adujusted chain that way. If you have good ears you can install it loose just touching chain. start the bike and slowly tighten the screw. When the sound stops loosen srcew quarter turn back. that should do it. It is better to keep it slightly loose than too tight. So if you aren't sure let a mechanic do it for you.

I have them on a ZX 11 that is street driven and I adjust it every four thousand miles. On the Race bike I ajust it more often but nthat is only because I take the motor apart more often. You will hear it as it loosens up. But like I said the ZX is a daily commuter and is driven hard and I am getting four thousand miles between adjustments.

That is good news Jay. I just cut mine down and drilled a new dowl in the nut and it works great.

Thanks for your answer, Sounds sensible and easy enuff. Where did you get your tensioner from?

Wasn't it you who had to cut some off the back to make it fit??

Nuts

Yes it was me Numbnuts that modified the tentioner. Ape has them Jay is a member of this board and can get them for you. If not Shnitz.com has them too. But you do have to cut the srew down about a inch it hits the frame. The tentioner that they sell is the same for the GSXR 750. I don't know if Jay is addressing the clearence problem but it is something he should look into. I don't have the phone number for Ape. But you can get it at dragbike.com

Early on we used out GSXR750SRAD tensioner for the 'busa. When the clearance problem came up, we made one for the 'busa only with a shorter bolt.

It is part number ST1300GX and we have them in stock.

Thanks Rhinoracin

I e mailed Schnitz last week. They got them in stock. Gonna cancel my yellow box order as the bloody thing aint turned up and order me one of these manual tensioners.
In fact I will do it right now.

Decisive Nuts ;)

Well sometimes you hear nothing and then your bike shuts off from the valve hitting the piston.A buddy of mine was sitting at a stop light when his let go.Sometime you can hear rattling when the bike is cold.Sometimes you hear rattling when the bike is revved

C rod you don't have to pull the motor to install the tentioner. Just make sure you get the right tentioner from Jay. The 750 gsxr will work but you have to cut the screw down. Ape has adreesed this and is now making a Hayabusa model. Fifty bucks is worth peace of mind.

i have a 00' red and grey . i have not noticed anything wrong with the tensioner yet.what exactly does it sound like ? is it real loud or really faint? i have about 1,500 miles on mine. do all 00's have this problem? if i get a schnitz tensioner do i have to yank motor?
