2005 cam chain tensioner

Hi I am going to change the cam chain tensioner on my 2005 (fitting standard suzuki one) will I have to remove the cam cover or can I just unbolt the old tensioner and fit the new one any tips or advice would be appreciated

Why change it? Is it bad?
Make sure it's TDC when you do it. Valve cover removal not necessary.

Thanks for the reply I think it sticks a few times over the last year when I have gone to start the bike up I get a cam chain rattle which is ok but then a loud click so I thought I would change it to be on the safe side

Don't be fooled. When I put a new full exhaust on my bike, it sounded like that for the first few revolutions. Then the metal heats up and its back to normal. I thought for sure I had a cam or valve issue all of a sudden pop up.
