I don't know if he did or not.
But, 2nd gear failures are common in gen1s, all years.
There is no particular reason why some fail and others don't either. The gears need undercut for better engagement. Shift forks should be fine. Perhaps failing gears are at a lower end of dimension tolerance, who knows.
A 100k+ mile beater can never have had a problem. While the trailer queen goes out at 1500 miles.
It's a time consuming job, but not a difficult one. Several hundred for machining, and a new engine gasket set.

The problem described could be several things. Fuel pump/filter, kickstand switch, etc. Just make sure what the issue is before you bust the engine cases open.

All true, but he has replaced/repaired those and other parts in another thread.
