2008 Blown motor

I appreciate the encouragement. I'm so ready to find out if she's gonna run or not I got butterflies,lol. I just have to make sure now I don't get ahead of my self putting it all back together. How long do you think I will need to let that high temp gasket stuff sit before I can fire her up? Like over night?

What are you using for sealant?

Don't over apply it....you don't want any to infiltrate the interior of the engine....

Each sealant has a different set up time...it's important that you don't rush it for best results

I used the gray high temp stuff frome advanced auto parts when I split the lower case on my gsxr1000. So I was going to use it again on this,unless there is any better suggestion? And yea I definitely don't want to rush anything because if I ruin what I have created i would probably have to sell the bike

I've never used that on a head gasket before...

Yeah, never put any sealant on a head gasket, just clean the block deck and head, and put the new head gasket over the dowel pins to locate it, torque accordingly and it's done.
And, just an fyi in general,
as far as engine case gaskets and sealants go, if the case came with a solid gasket, always use one, preferably a new one, and in most cases, also applying gasket sealer or rtv silicone is fine, and can even be a need(just never head gaskets).
I say that only as there are engines that do not use solid case gaskets, only rtv type silicone sealers from the factory instead.
If you try using just rtv on engine cases that originally came with a solid gasket, then the internal clearances will be too tight, and can cause several problems.
 
So I got.the motor in and went to spin it over and all.i heard was the starter spinning so I take the cover off and find the gear had broke off from the rest of itself around the shaft. The picture shows where it broke in blue. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this?

Well got it together and couldnt get it to crank. Than it made a crazy noise so I took it all back apart and found a broken lifter the was stuck in my piston top.I have it all apart and I'm just going to completely rebuild the motor but one of the journals on my crank is pretty bad so I'm wondering if it is repairable? I can't get a definite answer from anyone but I want to use it instead of the one from the donor motor since the 2nd gen crank produces more power than the 1st gen

Than it made a crazy noise so I took it all back apart and found a broken lifter the was stuck in my piston top.I have it all apart and I'm just going to completely rebuild the motor but one of the journals on my crank is pretty bad so I'm wondering if it is repairable? I can't get a definite answer from anyone but I want to use it instead of the one from the donor motor since the 2nd gen crank produces more power than the 1st gen

The crankshaft is now scrap metal, the damage to that journal is beyond maximum undersize grind spec.

I love the clean working environment you have going on there… NOT !
When disassembling or assembling engines you need a CLEAN area to work in.
Just my 2c anyway….

Hey @J07703 …. Disregard that last paragraph re your work environment… I’ve just gone back a few pages and now understand that you’re in a bad situation and living in a shed etc, sorry man, I hope it all works out for you soon.

No worries man. I do wish you wouldn't of told me this one is scrap. It's like I have the one from the donor motor but it's a first gen so I'm told it will not produce like the one from the second gen and since I've done went this far and lost this much I might as well wait until I can get a 2nd gen one and continue completely rebuilding the motor. But hey at least it's getting warm and the shed isn't too cold,lol
 
We all got our start somewhere. Mine was a Delta 88 at a police impound auction. She cost $160 plus a set of tires. Times were uber lean. Despite your enthusiasm for a moto, may I respectfully suggest that you abandon this effort. Find a reliable appliance of a Toyota and start on the arduous task of financial security.

Put it this way Frank, I don't need to put a micrometer on that journal to know it is too far gone.
When I look at that crank, it's kind of like going to a funeral parlor and looking at a dead family member lying in an open casket. . . a low and sad moment of loss . . good news is, it can be replaced!
