Yeah, never put any sealant on a head gasket, just clean the block deck and head, and put the new head gasket over the dowel pins to locate it, torque accordingly and it's done.
And, just an fyi in general,
as far as engine case gaskets and sealants go, if the case came with a solid gasket, always use one, preferably a new one, and in most cases, also applying gasket sealer or rtv silicone is fine, and can even be a need(just never head gaskets).
I say that only as there are engines that do not use solid case gaskets, only rtv type silicone sealers from the factory instead.
If you try using just rtv on engine cases that originally came with a solid gasket, then the internal clearances will be too tight, and can cause several problems.
