hey guys i just got the rear sprocket bumped up to a 43.i've had it for a week now and it didnt make that much of a diference to me. i'm thinking of going to a 16-42 setup which is real popular,my ? is i just like to cruise around and get on it everyone once and awhile but i'm looking for major power down low to scare the #### out of me but i still want good top speed. so has anyone every went from 17-43 to 16-42 and is it really that noticably or what,i want my bike like the new 1000's real flickable.

I think your approach is a little off if you want flickable. Try shaving 40 or 60 Lbs off the Busa...it will make a much bigger difference compared to changing gearing as far as turn-in goes.

Im running a 17/42 setup, and shaved off a bunch of weight, and I think it turns in, and accelerates like a completely different bike over stock.

Now, Val? I know you did some high $$$ mods...So, instead going to muscle up the motor, put em on the diet is better you saying?

I run a 16/42 and it might be a hand full with a stock swingarm. Top speed is around 175-177mph but spins like crazy in first and second. Probably a bit scary with a stock swingarm.

In my honest opinon if he want his bike to flick like a 1000, he need to drop 40 to 60+ lbs. I think he will notice a huge difference in spending his cash on reducing weight, over adding muscle to the motor for his making the bike more flickable (Is that even a word...oh well).

The GSXR 1000 has about the same HP as the Busa, but its the reduction of weight that really makes the 1000 perform better than the Busa (I wont even get into the suspension issues...just to be fair). And, I guess I have to ask what you mean by "Muscle up the motor" - Big Bore, turbo, High compression, stroker? Either way you slice it, motor or weigh reduction (Big numbers here) is going to cost ya several thousand out of the old savings account.

Im not a drag racer, so I look to spend my cash on what makes a better performing street bike. For the street, I say reduce the weight when ever possible.

Only thing the change in sprocket will do is shorten up the wheel base a little, which helps making the Busa more flickable...stock compared to 16/43-42 or 17/42-43, but why spend the cash on new sprockets and chain when a set of +1 rising links will add more benefit for a lot less $$$

I run this set up and think it is great! I noticed a difference right off the bat.I think going to 16/42 would be like running 1 more tooth in the back from what you have now.

Changing the sprockets to lower gears will give you more thrust throuhout all the gears but does nothing for your "Flickability" question?

If you want flickability, here's what you do. Gauranteed to work beautifully. Take your beloved busa down to your local dealer. Park it in the parking lot, take out your check book and for a couple thousand bucks you ride off on a brand new GSXR1000 and you'll have exactly what you are looking for!

No matter what you do to your busa, it's never going to be a great corner carver that will compete with the gisser1K. Just ain't gonna happen!

NJ, I think next week I will be putting my order in for Full CF body work from OPP, and have a question for ya.

On the CF fuel tank, have you heard of any issues with the tanks leaking? I've heard a few people comment on this in the past, and thinking the weight reduction may not be worth the safety issues that could result....Nice weight savings, but the tank is spendy and just want to be 100% sure.
