The story of my 2006 Hayabusa and it’s near death experience including its revival (thanks to monster fairings)

Let me start by talking about my bike...a 2006 Hayabusa in the Candy Indy blue and oort grey metallic. I bought it brand new in 2006 after a brief period with a 2006 gsxr 600 which I hated (sucky power band, terrible riding position and no soul as I like to put it). Bought the GSXR 600 for $9,500. Had it three months and went back to dealer when I saw a used limited edition 04 Busa. They wanted $7,800 for it...it had a micron full exhaust, power commander and small goodies. They were giving me $6,800 on trade for my 600 with 1,200 miles so for $1,000 more I was getting a Busa which was my dream bike.

We had drawn up the paperwork, was about to sign when they wheeled in the 06 in blue and silver. I abruptly told them to stop and bought that one for $10,500 with tax.

Within the first week it got a full yosh trs exhaust. Power commander and a bunch of other items to personalize the bike.

For 10 years I rode the bike, cared for it, regularly waxed it, cleaned it and I have to say I still love it to this day,13,000 miles later.

2 years ago I moved out of my parents into an apartment with no garage. I left the bike at my parents until I had a falling out with my dad and moved it to my shop ( I run a fleet repair shop ).

One of the coworkers said if I wanted to I could keep the bike in his garage. Well needless to say it was soon found out that the motive of letting me keep my bike in his garage was so he could go joy riding. Apparently on one such joy ride he managed to go down and wreck the bike pretty badly. He told me he would pay to fix everything and I believed this to be true.

The tow company took the bike back to their yard who happened to be a friend of his and he conveniently stopped working with me went mia successfully dodging me for 2 years and withholding my bike from me. This resulted in over $3,000 in storage fees. After a lot of perseverance and mild threats I was able to get him to pay the storage and give me $2,000 to fix the bike.

Which leads me to the rebuild, $2,000 was not nearly enough to put the bike back to its perfect factory state so I knew oem fairings were out.

I laid out a list and budget of everything I needed to make the bike run and usable and I plan to replace the oem fairings in the future.

Used mint Tank in my color I scored this for $389.84 and I paid with my own money

Stator cover $124.95

Used mint upper fairing stay $50.99

$299.95 new pipe to mod (just a standard yoshimura trs bolt on that I cut)

Used clutch cover $36.75

Mirrors $134.10

Used Bar assembly $360.15

Stator cover gasket $13.00

Bolt kit $65

Rear pilon is $80

This left me with about $775.00 for fairings which I allotted to go to monster fairings with and have them custom paint fairings to mimick my paint scheme with some tweaks.

I will get to a review of my experience and the product from them thus far shortly I just want to describe my goals with the rebuild.

A lot of small details went into the rebuild I really wanted to customize the bike while keeping the bike looking the "same" from a distance.

I tweaked the paint scheme with the help of monster fairings, The majority of stuff changed was like the fairing nose decals were modeled after the 2016 Busa's (just a straight ending of sticker, no color fade blend) I had all the silver lines on the fairing decals darkened.

I have been adding lot of little carbon fiber accents and blue accents.

All the engine casing covers are original but will be powder coated lollipop blue.

The heel plates and passenger peg mounts are being powder coated gloss black with carbon trim and I got blue pegs.

Sorry for you and the bike...but why on earth would you store it there with the key? (even tho its a coworker...)
Yea I know I know, well it’s a Busa, I left the key because he would have to move it around his garage but yes a very valuable lesson learned.

Fairings Teaser!!
Okay so this is where the Monster Fairings review comes into play. These are photos of my designed fairings that were custom painted for me by Monster Fairings. They take photos of the fairings post base and stripe painting before clear coat to make sure that the design is as ordered.

There is a lot of speculation on the Origin of monster fairings, I will clarify that they are indeed of Chinese origin and ship from China. That said the shipping of them was extremely quick and the longest part of the process was the production. It was 16 days that went into the base coat and striping of my design and they are all hand painted, no stickers with the exception of the kanji decal.

After they are clear coated they send additional photos to verify all appear as desired. Mine looked amazing I was utterly thrilled with the design turn out. They then ship the product which took just less than an entire week.
The paint quality on arrival to my surprise was amazing. Now some of my fairings arrived with blemishes which I will post next.

The issues with my paint on arrival all came down to the clear coating (I don’t know if they have someone else clear coating them other than who painted them) the base coat yet again, flawless.
There was a slight run on top of the tank cover and also there was a massive dust spec.
There was a slight run on the nose cowl and a very bad clear coat run on the tail.
I am very picky and meticulous. Not to mention biased because my entire time with this bike it lived a sheltered life with carefully waxed factory oem fairings. So aftermarket fairings already have my doubts.

The orange peel in the tank cover killed me, all the other fairings had smooth clear coat almost like factory but the tank cover somehow got shafted in his amount of clear coat.

The side fairings had some scratching in the kanji decals that were beneath the clear coat so I could never eliminate them.

I contacted monster fairings to confirm that I received them and advised that I had some issues and with no questions asked they offered to ship me 2 new side fairings, a new tail fairing and tank cover fairing. I really felt terrible having them paint the side fairings again for something so trivial plus knowing I planned to try and get the oem twilight kanji stickers to put on the side fairings, so I said to send me a new nose fairing instead (those lines and curves and designs on the side fairings are so tedious and done by hand). So at the end of the day, in 3 more weeks I will have replacement fairings to rectify the issues I had. I will post back more on that when they arrive.

Kudos to Monster Fairings in their customer service (this seems to be US) based and they have facilities all around the Florida area.
