Ads on the site

What’s going on with sponsors for the site? When you click sponsors it only shows Boost By Smith. I reached out maybe a year or so ago about becoming a sponsor for the site and never received a response.

I understand not wanting to take donations and maybe that applies to the concept of sponsors for you too, but at the end of the day ad revenue is taking money all the same as taking money from a donation or a sponsor. The only difference is that one of the options makes the user experience less enjoyable.

Lot's of possibilities here but to give you some context and general feedback on direct advertisers.

In the peak days of the site i.e. back in the early 2000's we had about 20 direct advertisers on the site. Direct advertising was the the way we liked to operate and we had built in technology to the forum that allowed for different advertising packages. Companies could choose how they wanted to leverage the site and how frequently they wanted banners to be seen or if they wanted a forum etc. The challenge with direct advertising comes drama, somehow myself and the site admins and moderators found ourselves spending ridiculous amounts of time trying to moderate posts of upset forum members because they didn't feel the product or service lived up to their expectations heck most of the time it was comments from members about a product and the sponsors wanted the comments removed. When you get into removing comments for sponsors you start to get into a difficult area when you are in the business of internet communications.

Over the past 20 years Google's advertising has improved and we have leveraged plugins that allow us to customize the ads to each individual user on the site. If you go back to the very beginning in 2000 we didn't have any advertising then we started a few directs then added The Google then we moved away from direct. While we never really wanted ads at all because of the amount of traffic, storage and size of the site we just have to do something. Google is the easiest and least impactful with least amount of drama, it's proven.

Now in regards to Boost by Smith, that guy is a class act... Never a complaint and only positive comments have ever come from them and I would tell you that they have truly been with us through the thick and thin as a partner and not a sponsor.

Hope that helps a little with the history...

Now if you attempted to get ahold of me I apologize if we somehow missed your message or post or however you attempted to contact us...
