Advantages of lowering?

I am curious, what are the advantages of lowering your busa? is for comfort? looks? how does it affect handling?

You can launch the bike easier being lowered, also looks cool for possing. Cons, the bike would be a ***** to corner which defeats the real purpose of the bike's design.

different people lower a bike for different reasons. A racer may lower/raise the front or rear of a bike for turning. By altering the front/rear weight balance you change a bikes tendency to over/understeer.

Some lower for drag racing. Again a lower center of gravity will help control wheelies off the line. The goal being a fast 60 ft time.

The most common reason is for looks, show, or comfort if the bike is too tall.

So to answer the question, yes it will affect your handling. Fully lowered bikes do not turn well. Racers deal in millimeters here and there. Inches throw off the complex geometry that manufacturers spents millions perfecting. The rule I use is lower for show or drag. Leave well enough alone if you like the twisties. Just my two cent.

The reason why I ask is because I am unconfortable on this Bike. I am to bent over and it hurts my wrist and back. Will lowereing help? I know there are heli bars and seats but lowering seems the most inexpensive for me.

When lowering the front make sure to use bar risers instead of the lowering triple clamps. Will help to raise the bars so you aren't bent over as far.
That's the reason Pipe lowered his bike. Also like to stand flat footed at stops.

Also, yes lowering it some will make it slower to turn in and reduced ground clearance. If you do not slam it to the ground you can still take turns pretty good. Don't let people fool you to think that you can not do twisties on the bike while lowered. Pipe has no problems; besides the fact that Pipe will drag bodywork at extreme angles.
Pipe still remember a few years ago on a VA fall ride that GMbusa's bike was lowered and extended a few inches and he was out riding a few stock height Hayabusa's like it was nothing. Pipe was one of them; Pipe was two up, but stock height and he was showing me up. Not ashamed to admit it. GMbusa----

Had mine half inch lowered, it affected handling. Raised back up now. If you have trouble touching the ground flat footed, get a Tobin seat, lowers your buttocks about two inches.

IMO, lowering is not going to solve your problem.

There are kits that will raise the bars for $15. Board sponsor Soupy sells them. Here is a link You can install them without lowering the front. The seats like Tobin and Soupys will lower you into the seat more and change the position of your arms and back slightly as well. But they also will decrease the distance between the butt and the pegs.

There are a few mods to lower the pegs as well. Modded stockers, Suzuki TL pegs, and Buell pegs.

How much have you ridden it. Most (coming from cruisers etc) find they get more comfortable as they get a few miles on them. You also want to use your stomach muscles and the wind on your chest to support you more. Miles will help but a couple of mods will make it easier.

Lowering your busa has no performance advantages to a street rider.

If you simply want it to look cool while parked in front of Starbucks, great. Just don't expect it to ride well. It will not!

Also, research the problems you will be forced to contend with after it's lowered such as the front fender making contact with the upper fairing, the rear tire scrubbing the undertail when riding two up or hitting a bump, bottoming out over speed bumps and the list goes on.

lowering it doesnt change the seat to bar length, its not going to help you,

wee

It got lowered this morning. It also got the bar raised with spacers. I have to say much better. It feels better and looks better. Im not trying to race on twisties so no problem there. I really didnt feel a big difference in the handling. But overall it just feels better. I gues it just comes down to preference.
