AKRAPOVIC EXHAUST & OIL FILTER

Charles (Chuck, Chucky...of Cyclestuff) took the time to check it out with Turbo Rick and with his own engine builder for me and to report back via e-mail. None of them have had any trouble.

So there's no oil filter problem with the Akra at all...

All your help is greatly appreciated. And I'm sure the people of Akrapovic would appreciate the clarifications if they were to read this thread.

NEW PROBLEM UNEARTHED: I now have it on good authority that if you switch from high beam to low beam twice in rapid succession, your rear wheel will instantly lock up. Consider yourself warned!

Not a real problem. Going from low beam to high twice clears lock-up!

Pete.... Install your own pipe and deal with it, drawbacks and all. Cant change your own oil in a business suit,my heart bleed's 4'ya! WHAT do you really want. 8'50's from the showroom floor will be kool, maybe next year "LOL". You sound well satisified with your "Busa" as it is now. Son you may be "bucks up" but your worry factor will kill you long before a motorcycle ever get's a chance. :-) Brian

J-C:

Before Akra, I was able to remove right side fairing, replace oil filter without removing the oil cooler line ... but with Akra ... remove the oil cooler line is a necissity ...

if you always did the fairing-oil cooler line removal, then there is no difference with the Akra ...

BRAINO: If I could understand more than 30% of what you said there, I'd respond. The 29% I do understand makes no sense to me.

AQUA: I guess it takes right brain thinking to go in the left side. Your epic struggles with the Akra have been informative at the very least. Thank you for sharing them.

I have a akropovic and I have no problem getting the oil filter out of the right side....change my oil every 1000 miles.

Hey spaz, i have a hindle and was disappointed in the hp. what was your mapping? I only received about 5hp with a bmc filter, the air box mod,and the s/s hindle. I like the look and the sound but i was hoping for about 10hp like yourself.
Hey DP tell Mr. Hindle that i'll let him play with my bike if he wants to get some ponies out of the hindle. But he has to be gentle and massage her after a hard days run.

J-C:

I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A POSITVE IN THIS OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT ...

draining the oil cooler whith replacement oil filter is "motor friendly" ...

Thanks for the input;

SIGY:

do you remove the oil cooler line???

if not please be specific ...

Thanks ...

Alan

I take the Two 5 mm head allen bolts off the right hand side of the case and GENTLY!!
repete GENTLY blow air from my air hosein to oil line it comes out in the oil filter cavity.
If you blow too hard it will blow on your front tire.
I not only do this to mine but all customers bikes VS1400, bandits and Katanas it just makes me feel like I am doing something more due to I am a dealership,A little extra.

No epic ... only communication ... that is what this ORG if for to talk about the one reason we all belong ... to talk about busa, mods, ease of service ...

the fact is "Akra" and the distributor have been interestred in selling, not serving customers ... for example, the solution to the oil filter replacement is "remove the oil cooler line" ...

it is undesirable to have to remove the oil cooler line, but it may be easier than removing the left fairing ...

in any case shouldn't the customer know about these "service" issues?

D-P ... don't you want to hear about aftermarket items and service issues ... before you buy ... not after you buy and get stuck???

Auqa:
Are you saying that I do not have to remove my right hand fairing and oil cooler line when changing my oil filter with stock exh.?
This is how I have been doing it so what is the diff. if you have to do it on the left side?

busagsx1300r,I ran map.005 the hindle ss with 20" carbon canister, air box mod with all four short volosity stacks and stock filter. The BMC lost two pony's.

D-P:

I too bought my Akra from Chucky ...

my post was not intended to be a chicken little message ...
nor did I make anything sound bad ...

the fact is ...

when I tried to replace the oil filter, there was not enough space around the exhaust to remove the old and replace the new !!!
I never thought of removing the left side fairing as the manual stated remove the right!!!
is one expected to be clairvouant and know that with an Akra you have twice the fun, you get to remove both fairings to change the oil filter ???

no one has offerred logic as to oil filter replacement with the Akra ...

only that it will pass through on the left ...

did you get any instructions on oil filter replacement with the Akra????

this thread produced one statement that to replace the oil filter one may have to remove both fairings to change oil and filter if running the Akra...

frankly, the cratfsmanship is so good on the Akra I suspect there is some easy solution to oil filter replacement ...

it unfrotunately has not made it into any "English" instructions yet ...

but ...

any responsible manufacturer-distributor is aware the product has to be installed and service must continue ...

the ease of service should be enhanced by an after market product, not impeded !!!

my 2 cents

Alan

Stock pipe, remove fairing lower, use suzuki wrench to loosed filter, fold a piece of cardboard shaped like a paper airplane to catch oil drip from motor as to keep pipe clean of oil. All pretty simple and straight forward.

Yosh RS3 system, same as above - ALL THE SAME

In regards of the Akrapovic take the issue to Lockhart Phillips (Akrapovic Importer).

Chuck- Turbo1300- Cycle Stuff, straight up guy. Chucky spend a considerable amount of time and expense this summer in his own exhaust system shoot-out! Information which he made public on this board, Thank you Chuck for your effort!

AQUA this is the first post I have read of this nature, no one else has mentioned this which doesn't mean a lot. Your post to warn others is very well meant. Take a minute and call Lockhart, they are a conciencous company and should review your gripe.

Hayabusa:

Thanks for the suggestion

don't know why the 2nd post???
