well i almost made it 3500 miles with out a scratch.
decided to let my bike be in a show this last weekend. had my VP come over to grab it with his trailer, thinking that would be safer than attacking my muddy, icy road. hate to scratch that expensive plastic! he tells me he'll give me a call when he gets to the mall to unload. well i get a call alright. "Hay bro, i dropped your bike." Great, i tell him i'll be there in a sec. i get there and the right side lower fairing is cracked/busted, long split where the slider was gonna go, hole towards the bottom, its freaking crunched! only 1 panel, no damage to the frame or anything else that i can tell. i took it off for the show. and everyone seemed to enjoy looking inside my bike, but i don't. both our deductibles are $500, and he really can't afford it. 3 kids, wife only one working at the time. i can afford it but it eats up my bagster and touring windscreen$$. dangit!
he is going to try to fix it but i don't see it happening.
i deleve he was legally responsible for my bike when his straps failed, and my bike slammed over onto the trailer rail. but i don't know.:banghead:

crud im not quite sure what im going to do. i've thought of ordering an entire set off fleebay, found some for around $500ish.
my president told me to take all the farings off and and put the windjammer off my goldwing on it. told him i can't, i just sold it at the bike show.:poke:
as long as i get it figured out and fixed before may. nothing better mess up my trip to the keys!

any ideas?

If there aren't any holes in it, it can be fixed. Mine had major rash down one side (dropped at the dragstrip at 50+ mph) and cracks on the other (drunk harley rider knocked it over at bike night) and both sides were fixed and primered in my garage. Fiberglass mat, spot putty, bondo and primer. Will take some time, but can be done if you're on a budget.

I think there was a post recentlly. Someone bought a cheap set off of Ebay and they were terrible. Poor fitment and finish. Don't by any plastics on Ebay that are from China.

His automobile insurance should cover it. Ask him to let that happen and you cover the deductible. Win - Win!

Buy oem not cheap ebay/china plastic!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a set from auctmart and I reget it.

The quality of the plastic used to make the fairings suck. The paint color didnt match oem color. Lots of little blems in the clear coat. Had to drill out some of the holes. Trimmed way more flash than I should have had to. Gap between panels. The inside of the front fairing that is visable isnt painted (does have tons of over spray). Also not all the edges where painted.

Forgot to mention these are there perfect fit fairings

Here are two links to my photobucket.

This one will show the poor plastic quality, difference in paint color, and gaps.

the gen 2 fairings must be more expensive, i found oem ones for 370 bucks a side.

well i bought a plastic welder from harbor freight. its kind of a glorified soldering pen. good news, it works really well :goodidea: to my suprise. ive got the back almost welded up, just a piece or two left to weld in. then i'll flip it over, sand it, and weld the front.
I've even thought of a way to cover it up. darker blue flames out the openings. and sense the fella that dropped knows how to paint = cheep fix! :cheerleader:

here check out the pics.

I am going to Harbor Freight tomorrow and picking me up a plastic welder and trying to fix the cracks in my plastics. Thanks for posting up the picks of the repair work. Keep us updated with the progress on the repairs.

that sucks :(

ebay fairings are junk, they are for bikes you feel obligated to put fairings on but know full well that your going crash again in the near future.

ebays good if you can get a used set of OEM fairing cheap, but don't get the aftermarket fairings if you want to show the bike. I have a set for the track because they are cheap and expendable, but fit and finish leave alot to be desired.

looks like you figured out a good solution. If it doesent work, id buy the new OEM myself and have him pay you back as his finances allow. I just did that last fall.

Those are some pretty significant cracks. You might want to bolster the repairs you've made with some fiberglass on the back of the panels just to prevent the daily vibrations and shakes of riding from tearing your repairs apart again.

Dude that does suck! I know its stressing you out right now...but try not to let it get you down. It's easy to tell you love your bike so replace the fairing w/ quality OEM plastic and move on. If your VP is worth anything..he'll do what he can to make it right.
