I think your right, it looks like a black matte finish straight blade hatchet on the the side of the fairing... I wonder if the stuff on this bike is actually functional.

I just realized those aren't shoulder pads, they're the tale end of his helmet. It's traditional Japanese Ceramic plating that hangs down at the bottom of a helmet
