So last night I go for a ride with a few friends. I put on my lid and jacket an think to myself I'll be fine with jeans and sneakers, besides we are only riding local roads at 30-40 mph

So here I am comming out of this long left hand turn at a 110, When a rock (or something) comes up and hits my big toe on my right foot (insert stupid jerk smiley here) Well the pain if you can picture in your head (stub your toe on the coffee table) and breaking it (yes I did) Was so intense that I thought I would pass out!
I held on didn't pick the bike up or I would have ran right in to a heavy metal gate (surrounding a nut house) once I slowed down and then stoped I told my friends what had happened, We all finished our riding (2 more hours worth)
Now I arrive at home with a limp, (wife is sleeping so I'm good) remove my sneaker to find my toe is twice the normal size and purple
SHOCKED.gif

I take a shower and hit the sack, I wake up this morning looking to take a picture of it and find most of the swelling has gone down and it is only a little blue. At this point I'm like WTF I wanted pictures of my big purple toe

My point is simple,
Put on all the gear all the time! Broken bones hurt even if its just a toe!

Just purchased a Vanson Mark2 Night Challenger
leather jacket. Talk about a high quality race jacket. The venting on this thing is crazy efficient. I rode today, 90F and I was cool as a cuccumber.
Made in Fall River, Mass. Worth every penny.

Leather track lowers and boots next season.
......and I don't race.

All my friends I ride with wear beenies and t-shirts, jeans, sneakers. They always chuckle at my overboard approach to regular street riding.
"Who's skin is this"?

No picture as it no longer looks any different from my regular ugly toes? I was upset that it looks so normal, But if you want to know how it feels right now, drop a brick on your toe! It hurts alot!
So here is a pic for ya,
Remember you said no dash!!!

Agreed on the gear. Last year my Yamaha and I met some very nasty roads. Loose tar from winter and frost heaves. I took the corner. My wheel stuck to the tar. But the tar didn't stick to the road..... So.... I hit the pavement @ 60 mph+. My pants shredded. My hands rash. My jacket, hardly a mark on it. Thank god for Icon. My helmet, ugly looking, but my head in tact. Huge plus to big gear. Anyone whom rides without gear is insane. Period.

Very good point!

I need to pick me up a new pair of boots.

You guys have any recomendations? Something that isn't too bulky? I wear a size 14!

check if new enough still has the sidi's on closeout.. great boots and if you find em' closeout the price wont' kill ya.

Apply some DSMO regulary on the affected area and it will heal faster; make sure your toe is clean because DMSO will pull anything on top of your skin into your blood stream---including bacteria!

Holy multiple posts bat man!

I just bought a set of Sidi Vertebra boots in Size 14. Good Boot, great protection, nice fit. Jury is out on the lifespan though. I have a pair of Bates Sport racer boots that I rode with for over 20 years before getting the Sidi's. I can only hope these last half as long!

dang 00negative-got a case of "typing turets syndrome", or does your keyboard stutter?

LoL j/k

hey Alpine n Icon now have really nice "street" boots that arent quite as high-up the calf but still offer some adequate ankle protection and come in size 14s.

Well - at the bash, I went down wearing a full ICON Timax suit and 90% of the visible damage was below my waist. If I had been wearing jeans? I don't even want to think about what would've happened.

Enjoy the ride, but dress for the rash....

Well?...i myself have been guilty of riding to the corner store in my cowboy boots but would never consider teaming up with some riding buds wearing sneakers..ALL other times...if i'm riding?...my alpinestars or sidi's are on my dogs as...

I'm a working class family man....and maybe execs. and cubical junkies can get away with showing up for work on crutches but i damn sure can't!

and considering that foot/leg/shin injuries seem to be some of the more common injuries sustained in any go-down?...Riding boots is just as important to me as is my lid or my jacket for that matter...but i can work with some missing skin...i could work with a lame wing...but take away my ability to walk?...and i'd be a tough 6 months for the jinks family.

Boots is D@MN important gear.
