I've noticed our country has never really embraced our military...when we were in Afghanistan we were the best thing going, before and after our involvment in Afghanistan support for our military faded into the background really quickly.
I remember in the '80s and early '90s we were told to not wear our uniforms or any insignia off base...we were also told to be careful where we parked our cars as people were damaging them if they saw a base decal in the windshield.
