An utter F-up

Well, with a few others posting their mishaps why not post mine? I was planning a ride up to N GA tomorrow to do the 129 loop. I could tell my chain was getting a little slack so decided to put her up on the pit bull rear stand and get that squared away before tomorrow morning. Well, I got the chain slack within spec (20-30mm) and when I rolled her off the stand I wasn't being cautious enough and down she went, clutch side.

I am extremely lucky. There's a small scratch at the bottom of the starter cover, the last inch of the clutch lever broke, and the little ball that's attached to the foot peg broke off. That's IT. No fairing scratches. No rear-view mirror scuffs. No bar ends scratches. However, I feel like jumping off of a cliff. I guess my adrenalin kicked in (yet not quite hard enough) and I was able to really take her down gently. To any of the others that have made such a dumb mistake, don't fret. I'm right there with ya

You can see the scuff on the starter cover but you have to look close. I was going to get one from the underside but my camera battery died. Also, check out that dent below the peg?! What a night!

One more thing. I noted something (pre-drop). Underneath both footpegs, the exhaust is dented. On the clutch side it's actually a pretty big ding. Brake side not so bad. Is the suspension too soft? Has this happened to anyone else?

Pulk that sucks about the drop.....its only money

The dent in the exhaust isn't the result of suspension movement, the pipe and pegs / shifter move together with the bike

The pipe is indented to make room for shift linkage adjustments, not enough clearance with the regular pipe.

Bro breath man! it sucks, Sh** happens, its minor, dont be so hard on your self, your K8 still looks great

Ah cool, I can't believe I haven't noticed it before! I guess tonight is just not my night

I dropped the last bike I owned two weeks after I got it so I know how you feel.

I am extremely careful since that incident...

Get use to it! It wont be the last time, trust me. Everytime I get my bike to look the way I want it gets a nice stroke of bad luck thrust upon it.

Just so you know it is a stator cover not starter cover. And I did the same thing to my 05 about 3 months after I got it.

That's your alternator housing (stator) cover, not your starter cover.

And a nice carbon fiber stator cover is just the ticket for you here, bro!

I guess it happens to the best of us, thank god no damage was done to the farings, fix it up, an I'm sure you will definitely be more careful next time. I usually have someone around when I take my bike on and off the stand, even my mother will help me, safety first, but it the stupid mistakes that sucks, good luck..

Sorry to hear but glad you have no real damage.

I bet you'll make sure your kickstand is in the down and lock position from now on when you unload her off the stand. I always do!

ALMOST DROPPED MY 08 WHEN I HAD IT ON REAR STAND AND BAXLEY WHEEL CHOCK. TRIED ROLLING IT OFF THE BAXLEY WITH REAR STAND STILL IN PLACE.THIS WAS TO PUT MY FRONT STAND ON. WELL THE REAR STAND ROLLED OFF. CAUGHT IT LUCKILY. SURE DID GET MY HEART PUMPIN THOUGH.

Almost tipped mine over installing my lowering links, luckily I was able to catch it before it fell over. The rear stand scratched my swing arm though.
