Hey the reason I'm asking is it looks like i will be riding up to the Asheville area 500+ miles one way from here and my stock rear is not quite to the bars. Yes and I'm one of those that like to get the most of a tire! I actually like the handling it gives. PS I'm not close to a knee dragger, no burn outs, and not any wide open take offs! As it shows I have 3400 on it now! Will it make the trip??? lurk.gif  bowdown.gif  beerchug.gifAOL.com Images Not Available

I honestly don't know...I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I grew up in West Palm Beach, it is about 700+ miles to Asheville from there. Once you get up here, there's Dal-Kawa in Hendersonville & MR. Motorcycle in Asheville(Vman 1300 works there). I know the guys at Dal-Kawa, my bikes came from there & all the service. So they will be able to hook you up w/ a tire, if you need it...

You have already made it 600 miles farther than my best on a B56...if it were mine, and I had a 1K trip planned...I'd replace it.

Hey thanks for all the info! beerchug.gif  I'll probably have to visit the bike shop up there with my luck! I bought a set of wheels with tires last night (on site) but i doubt they will get here in time to do me any good. I leave on the 6th. BTW LOL i have over a 1/2" strip on the R and a bit less on the L. No good corners here other than lefts one can hang if the traffic allows. The scrubbing is thanks to the crap dirty road I have to go on to the job. Which was to be paved a year ago. bowdown.gif

Looks like you are hitting about where I changed my last one out. Had 4000 on it. Bought another 56 to finish the front tire out. Next time around I am either going to the Pilot or back to Dunlop. Got 7000 out of the first rear but it hit cords in one spot. You have to go by the worst as the indicator. So you are at the point of decision. poke.gif

Yep! and i will probably regret not having a good tire up there. Could turn out to be a sit and BS trip anyway with the leaf lookers etc etc. Or i could roast some of that untouched chicken!! beerchug.gif

FYI you'll only be sitting, depending on what time of day you get to Asheville. And if you take the I26 & I40 junction. If it's between about 3-6PM=your guaranteed to sit.

I26 will most likely be your quickest route to Asheville, as far as roads go.

Now if you don't mind some twisty scenic roads. They most definitely won't be any quicker. Will have to allow even more time. And you better be on new tires. Because your in the middle of some National Forests. At the bottom of their mountains.
But you won't find any better views

Research Marietta, SC>HWY 11>HWY 276 will take you to Brevard, NC. Or you could go up to Walhalla, NC>towards Cashier, NC>then through Brevard, NC. Keep in mind a couple of these roads are in construction-especially in SC. But you won't find any other roads, besides the Dragon. That are more fun!

Either hit me up or Vman on directions & such. I would ride with you. But the Busa's in the shop for the next 2 months...

So yes change your tire, before you get here.

Also consider the Blue Ridge Parkway(a few potholes in that area) to get around the I26 & I40 junction.

Here's a pic of my stock B A at 3200 miles.
I didn't think I was too hard on it with bike break in and all. Not aggressively ridden at all really- no burnouts, etc. I'm thinking theres got to be different compounds for this tire out there. One guy on here (?) said that he was nearing 8000 miles on the OEM tire.............. rock.gif

I agree! But i am now tryin to teach myself to not touch the rear brake unless its a need too. I think its helping on brake and tire wear big time! all_coholic.gif

The tire in this picture should have been changed way before it got to this condition...

This is the Battlax rear original...I managed to get over 8000 miles out of mine...Didn't do too much twisties...mostly highway commuting to work and back...tire is only little over two months old...just a lot of work miles and riding-some single and some two up.... Anyway, I have my Viper sport rear now...Just got it in yesterday from Tires Unlimited!

Hey that is amazing!! You need to teach on how to do that! Bet you use the rear brake very little? Which is the way to do it! I used it too much. That tire looks safe to me and @ 8K commuting miles (which is the worst) unless your job is the escort bike rider for wide loads on the dragon!!!! beerchug.gif bowdown.gif super.gif

Hey all I just got back from almost too much riding rock.gif  and the tire held up great. Was a bit to smooth for the wet roads that was up there the past few days, but made it up, around the Dragon, and back! over 1700 miles! 5200m on it now. I won't do it again! It was on my mind the whole trip!!!
