Any thoughts on the Suzuki gel seat?

I have no complaints with the Suzuki Gel seat (1800 ride last year, 1500-mile ride this year) and never had problems with it getting hot in the sun: my azz is on it when riding (so the sun is blocked) and I cover it when I need to be off the bike for a while. Had a Corbin on my old 08 (it now resides in Tim-Pashnit's bike) and also liked it a lot. I am 185 lbs, 70 in tall, 30-in inseam.

I bought the OEM Suzuki GEL seat and it is very comfortable. I actually found that it needed to be broken in some if you can beleive that...does get very hot if left in the sun, I bought a Kwik Shade to cover the bike when it is in the sun, that company went out of business but it works great at keeping the seat cool out in the sun. I bought a GEL seat off of ebay with a Kanji log leather seat cover and it was horrible....still sitting in a box in my basement. My only complaint with the OEM GEL seat is the cover stretches out after awhile...I have had my GEL Seat for 6 years so it is starting to bunch up.

The gel seat is comfy at first but my nuttskees still get slid into the tank and I find it hard to scoot back because it kind of sloped a lot! I also DISLIKE the stitching toward the front...I could feel it on my legs as I rode! Went back to stock!! Mine is for sale! still like new!!

I have three seats available to swap on the bike (2006) using the quick disconnect pins. Two typical stay on the shelf, that would be the stock seat and the Suzuki Gel seat. The preferred seat is my Tobin with the zip in back pad. I originally tried the gel seat prior to getting a Tobin. I figured it needed time to break in but after over 4k+ miles it just didn't get comfortable. And it did seem to be hotter than the stock or tobin. I have used all the seats on varying length of rides, from just getting to the local meet and greet, to an all day 500+ mile ride.

So, my order of preference is as follows;
1) Tobin
2) Stock
3) Suzuki Gel

With that said, I'm 6' 2" @ 225 lbs. (I'm not fat, just easily seen)

PS - a note about the Tobin, I wish I had a second pad that's half as thick for when I wear certain leathers. I called Tobin back in the day and they wanted $60 for it so I passed. I figure since I was an existing customer it might have been for reasonable. Oh well, when I get around to it, I'll have one made locally for a lot less.

Zip in the back pad????:poke: Please explain the zip...

There is a pad that goes between your butt and the hump. It zips to the bottom of the seat. It keeps you from sliding back to the hump. If I can find a picture I'll post it.

I found an old pic.

I am of the same opinion as GSXcite. I am 180 lbs. The Gel seats puts you about 1/2 inch higher and that does make a difference on a longer ride. Of course I like the stock seat too. Twisty roads make you forget about comfort. Straight roads cause all sorts of pain cause there is nothing to keep your mind occupied. Get twisting....
