The Preachers v. Truckers In Heaven

Three preachers died and went to heaven. While waiting for St. Peter to let them in, a SWIFT and J.B. HUNT driver show up.

St. Peter makes the preachers step aside. This baffled the preachers so they asked, "We've been preaching the good word our whole life, and you make us step aside and let these truckers in before us?"

St. Peter replied, "In their first year of driving they have scared "the hell" out of more people then you ever preached to."

I was running 5k a week as a trainer.. carried 300G of fuel in a pair of 160G saddle tanks..

I was running semi dedicated from East Chicago to Gaffney SC/ Woodstock Ontario/Buffalo and back to SC twice a week.. home every weekend.. Was pretty nice sacked out in the bunk getting paid for trainee miles

(except for the one that went south on 75 instead of north) woke up about 20 minutes out of Georgia.... dip wad....

Other weeks we would run Chicago to LA/back to Phx and then pickup copper in Morenci/Globe/Miami back to Chicago.. And then there were the "boys town" runs

(if ya gotta ask you dont wanna know)

If I could keep a better half running like that I would have stayed... met a lot of great guys driving...
Know a guy who was a trainer for JB Hunt locally, he was sleeping on one haul and woke up when he flew off the bunk onto the floor- got up cussing the trainee and yelling "If you wanted me to take over why didn't you just say so instead of flooring the brake like that?!?"

Trainee just pointed to the front of the truck, couldn't talk, there was a CAR jammed under the front bumper back to the windshield. Buddy jumped out and under the truck to see if anybody was still alive, she was, for about 60 seconds after he got under there. She had driven into the truck on purpose. Buddy got out of trucking not long after that...

I drive '28 box vans, class B stuff. Never had any intention of getting a class A to drive the big stuff. Winters are too long, and most of what I do is in neigborhoods. Work for a moving company up here. Personally I would hate to be trying to back into a steep driveway on an icy hill with a '54 trailer and a double axel rig on a single lane road in a blizzard with the neighborhood children playing nearby. Not a stress I need.

How did you guys get your CDL?? Im really looking into it and all the schools im lookin at want like $5000 for class A.....

I used to run an 87' Peterbuilt for my old job... usually pulled a lowboy with a mantis crane(60ton pile of chit if ya ask me) also hauled other assorted transmission line equipment( Full 14000lb wire spools(6 at a time) etc.etc.). I HATED having to deal with wideload overweight limits. Idiot drivers made me want to pull all my hair out... I think I am going bald and gray cause of it.

I was getting funny looks when I was pulling a single motorcycle.....

YAY for college and the IT field. No more truck driving for me.

P.S. For those of you truckers that didn't or don't have a bunk to pass out in and never seemed to stop near a motel.. I feel your pain.. sleeping in the pass seat SUCKS..... Winch trucks FTL.

Ive got a rep from a school coming and talk to me on Tuesday. Im just not sure if there is a cheaper way to get my CDL or if this is the only way to do it? Do you guys like driving or am i just getting myself in to something that isnt gonna be fun?

I remember the day the driving school rep showed up. The school was pretty easy way back then but now it's a lot harder. My sister in law went last summer and had a tough time passing the yard tests. You have to learn to back and move the truck around several obstacles to pass the test. That's where the school comes in by teaching you what you need to know to get through the test. You also get to use their truck which you have learned on to take the test. If you can't afford to pay for the school some states have grant money. Some companies will pay for the school if you stay with them.
The job used to be fun but 2 million miles into it the fun is gone. It's still way better than going into an office or factory every day.

Hi guys, new here, Now in August it will be 20 years of driving Big Rigs, started summer of 89 local then 7 years OTR now I'm local its good to sleep in your own bed every night. And 22 years on bikes I have an 07 Busa Blue.

:welcome:

Enjoyable read. I think driving a truck for a living must be tough...particularly if one has a family.

Got me thinking about how much fuel I burn at work in a year.
