Anyone ever ride a TL1000R

I know this probably isn't the place to post this, but I am debating on selling the Busa and picking up a TL1000R (02 or 03)....I just wondered if anyone here has any experience with them at all....They seem to look similar to our bikes, and I love that V-twin rumble....Only thing is I wonder how I would like the performance....This will probably never happen because my wife loves the Busa....but I could sell the Busa get a TL and have at least $3000 left over....

How well do they handle??? ANd is the acceleration even close to Busa....I think they only have around 110 HP....

The TL sucks...No comparison what so ever with an inline 4...Don't do it...

I rode an 02 TL, and I really can't say it was much better (power, handling) than my '01 750 Katana. The owner said it needed a tuneup.. but it was still uncomfortable to sit on, and kinda "ka-chunky". I didn't like it. And yes, I have ridden a Busa... I pick Busa, hands down.

Only spent a day or so on one....ergos suck. Big time. (for me) Way too aggressive position for my taste. Had great torque..easy wheelie in first, clutch in second. Fairly heavy, not sure what the actual weight is, but it can't be THAT far behind the busa. Handled well tho..but I think my busa handles well too...

I just wouldn't own it because of the ergos...oh, and that little thing about 50+ less HP!!

I will admit though, I like the twin sound! Hell, keep the busa and pick up a Buell XB9 or 12R. Razor sharp handling, cool V-twin sound...and ya should be able to snag one pretty cheap, they arent selling that well.

Don't do it..I rode and raced on a buddies..Ka dunka dunk sound gets to you after a while, and real easy to stall if its not on the right stroke taking off..

Stay away from them!!

I rode my 2001 TLR for 2 years and about 20000 miles and never had a complaint . The torque is awesome , wheelies are easy as heck and handling was better than the Busa . I do miss her sometime but the sheer power and acelleration of the Busa does make up for the difference and then some .

Excellent bike, plentiful snappy torque and nice sound. The riding position sucks in my opinion. I am 6'2" and the position gets me tired quicker than the busa.
A little weird in the handling department but very much fun. The other day a buddy of mine picked one up at a dealership I believe that it is a '02. It was the best used TL I have ever seen since everytime I see one it has been dropped. Something to do with that snappy torque I guess.

my $0.02

Jim

I love the TL. A very very underestimated sportsbike...

Definetely very snappy, with LOOOADS of power...

IMO, don't trade the Busa for a TL...if you wan't the money, and really want the TL, then go for it...you'll still get a whole hell of a lot of power...

But if you still want the performance of a Busa, the TL is no comparison..

I can tell ya this.......Sunday I was at a dyno and there was one there. He was bragging that it had TONS of power. He also had a dry nos system on it. It did sound real good. It was piped, and I dunno what else. He guessed it was gonna make 180-190 rwhp w/ the nos. Well, on motor, it made 119rwhp, and on a 60 shot(thats what he said), it made 132rwhp. It did sound and look good, though.

Haven't rode one, but I've rode with a few guys who ride them. I just don't care for all the noise and vibrations of a V-twin. The guys I've rode with are always having stuff break or shake loose from the twin's vibrations. I've seen them set off car alarms in town riding by them with Yosh cans. To much noise for me. I prefer the smoothness of an I4.

You might not mind the noise and vibrations, but if you haven't rode a twin it's something to consider before you give up the super smooth busa for one. A used one can be had for a few thousand dollars. If you can swing it I'd keep the busa and buy a TL as a second bike, then sell the busa if you truly like the TL that much. I doubt you'll let the busa go if you do that though.

i trackday/ride with a guy that loves his TL.. can't say that I blame him really.. I really enjoy riding it on occasion..

I still think they are one, if not, the best looking sportbike ever .. freekin' awesome.

sound is incredible especially with yoshi pipes.

power is ok... sorta like a 600 on top end with alot more torque. I believe he ran a 11.4 or something around there at the strip... it's obviously not a 'busa powerwise..

dry weight is about 440 pnds I believe. Most folks hate the rotary damper rear shock.. I dunno I haven't ridden enough to comment about that.. I do know he rails that mofo at the track with racer group guys. Does ok with guys at his level and all that.

not as comfortable for longer trips... and your wife won't like the second seat.. pass. pegs are a bit high so she'll end up sitting frog legged.

I love and miss my 2000 TL1000R. I rode it for over 20k miles without a single prob. One of the things I miss the most is the sound of a V-Twin. I dynoed 120 to the wheel with a K&n filter with Yosh bolt ons. Definetly handing was much easier with the TL but not much. Ergos hands down the busa is a couch compared to a TL. I sold my TL for a Busa and dont regret my decision. I purchased the busa for the comfort and looks of a sportbike without going to a full sport tourer such as the VFR or the zzr1200.

I enjoyed my TLR.  I-4's and v-twins are two different animals.  I had a 2001 with 2Bros pipes.  Ergos feel the same for me.  The TL was the most comfortable "race replica" that I've ridden.  The only thing is to invest in a rear shock.  Very reliable.  Also, they don't like to be started and turned off without warming up.  Whenever I start it, I always make sure it reaches operating temperature (180 degrees) before I turn it off.  Both bikes weigh about the same.  I wish that I still had kept the TL.  Two entirely different bikes.  I had both in my stable, but sold the TL at a very good price for the buyer.  Dumb move.  If I find a deal on another clean TL, it's mine. Picture was taken during one of the few times that the hump wasn't on.

I don't get it. Much easier, but not much? Uhhh, hmmm...

My busa rails much easier now because of all the aftermarket goodies. The TL was a pig also like the busa. My TL was about 495 lbs wet. I never did weight the busa but should be about about 510-520 wet. The ergos on the TL allowed me to throw the TL around the twisties much easier then the busa. With the busa seems like I have to put a little bit more weight on the foot pegs and bars to in the turns side to side.

I loved mine & miss it alot and hope one day my neighbor gives me a chance to get it back.Tons of torque, beaautiful rumble witht he D&D slipons made about 130hp tuned to the max, stock motor.I got it as a total for $350 and should have never sold it.

I rode an RC-51 and will never have any desire to get on another v-twin sport bike again. It was way to twitchy on the throttle, especially at high RPM's.

Can't believe the flaming. It's not a Busa, but it is a great bike. The ergos are different due to the fact it's not a sport-tourer. Handling is good, torque is fantastic down low, and still has a very respectable top end. The TLS is a nice ride as well. My .02- I prefer the TLR to the SV.

I can't either...my 01 TL1000S was a blast and secured a spot in my heart forever. The "B*tch", as I called her, was tempermental and finicky but fun to ride. I really think it was a beautiful machine, I got as many compliments as I do with the busa. Just a different kind of motorcycle....SV has no soul compared to the tiller....imo.
