Normally the only strap I need for a dyno run is the front wheel strap. I use two rear straps to assistance in balancing the bike (after centering the wheel on the drum). These straps normally are not really tight, yes they must be pulled a bit more when the bikes starts the rear wheel skipping (or have someone push down on the tail to get traction).
As far as tuning a PC2 on the dyno, I do it every time I create a map for a PC2 (yes in real time). With the dy250 and brake, you run the bike at each rpm level (500,1000,1.5k, 2k, 2.5k, etc) with different throttle postitions (2%,5%,10%,20%,30%,40%, etc), During this time you enter new fuel values and upload them to the pc2 to obtain the best fuel/air ratio (12.5-13.1).
To try and create a map w/o the use of the dyno is sheer madnes.
I can understand the dyno opperator not want to sit on a time bomb, I did a Yam 1000 that lost a head gasket, nothing like hot water on your legs and feet!
And yes it is very expensive to insure a shop with a dyno.
