APE Crank Service

Thanks Jay, I saw it there already when I visited the site to order a manual tensioner.

I was actually hoping a member of the boards has already actually used the service and had something to say about it.

Are you using it? How about an "unbiased" opinion? ;)

I am with Falicon on this one. They have the best cranks I have ever used in most of my bikes. The knife edge with a set of carrillos rule.

You have to go with whoever you are comfortable with. We have been doing these cranks longer than anyone else in the business, clear back to the Honda 750 sohc in the seventies.

We do all the cranks for Team Graves factory Yamaha AMA formula extreme team, Zlock Racing factory Kawasaki Formula USA team, a bunch for Lee Shirts shop, and hundreds more.

Anyone used the APE Crank service for their 'Busa crank yet??

Motorhead, JC??

Thinking about getting into a bit of motor enhancements during the off-season with that one being one of them.

Anyone?

Eddie;

Go to aperaceparts.com and click on the "new products" button, then scroll down to see one of our 'busa cranks.

Jay

JC,

Tell me your impressions on the performance of your bike after the crank service.

APE comes highly recommended from a lot of sources I have talked with.

Curious on any increase in HP and handling based on the crank alone.

I am pretty much sold on the service already, just picking your brain on this one JC. :)

i have installed ape cranks in bikes and the quality is as good or better than any.the parts they sell are great and thier service is as good as it gets.and hopefully i can get 1 of the busa cranks down there soon for them to stroke soon.jay and ape is 1 of the most committed to the motorcycle industry businesses around.i have had work preformed by them since around 81 when they did my head work on my old kz.

Motorhead,

Looks like I'll be sending them my crank in the off season. She's gonna be a different beast altogether come next spring!!

...oh s h i t, there goes that woody thing again!! :)

Thanks for the reply.

Having your Crank done by APE is money VERY WELL SPENT!
Jay takes up to 2pds(maybe more) off when lightening up, PLUS they Razor cut it to slice through the oil which all results in CHEAP Hp when compared to the $189 they charge to do the servive.

Once Jay does the Crank, theres no need for Crank shaft bal.

And for the guys that don't know what removing this weight means...We're talking somewhere between 12 to 15hp!

Thats a Damn cheap gain for under $200.

Everybody I talk to that is either in the process doing motor work or planing on doing some, I tell them to send their Crank to APE.

"Money Well Spent!"

I went to their Ape's Web site to take a look at info on the crank service and cam tensioner.

Geez, it gets my vote for the worst Web site on the Net 1995-2000

Crap--click "home" and you "get a page not found!" I hope their products are not as bush.

Thanks Frank,

I knew the possible HP numbers just in removing the counter-balancer because it's been discussed at length.

I am going to do this, but I wanted to make sure the crank was completely balanced

We have two websites. Our newest one that we are working on is aperaceparts.com

If you click on "new products" and scroll down you can see the 'busa crank. If you click the "tour" button, you get a look at the shop including the crank dept.

We are putting our complete 2000 catalog up on this site. Will be several more months. That's why if you click the "online catalog" button, for now it takes you to the page to request a papaer one ( which I would assume that any 'busa owner would already have).

As for seeing tensioners, we have put up test pages of the catalog to see what they will look like. It happens to be the tensioner page. Go to aperaceparts.com/test

You will see an index of test. Click on the one next to the bottom that says it is 134K.

Fast-E, the real hp #'s I was talking about comes from the Crank work. Just removing the Balancer gives very little compared to what you get from the Crank work.

I'm sure Jay would tell ya that since Suzuki knew they were putting a Crank Shaft Balancer in this motor, they didn't balance the Crank that well in the factory. I personally wouldn't remove My Balancer unless I had the Crank Balanced.

Frank,

Thanks for the info.

Actually had a very good conversation with John. I am sold on it.

Hayabusaboy & Rhinoracin,

Pick who you like for the work and who your comfortable with, it is essentially the same work. But #1, Mr. Fallicon no longer works there or owns the company and #2 the price for their mod is twice as much as APE's.

At least with APE, I know that only one of two people are going to touch my crank. Couple that with the fact that they have been doing it longer than anyone out there...my money goes to APE on this one.

No flames, just info to pass on.
