Argggg!!!!

I'm in Ft Worth too. PM me when you want to do some riding. Good luck with the pan. Let me know if you can use any help.

my GOD man! How much did you tighten that bolt?

16.5 ft pounds my friend. The next purchase after the new oil pan and gasket and time to install I would recommend a torque wrench from Sears for $50.00. Going to be cheaper than that repair.

hogger...

yes..I'm yelling at you...

+alot...............a torque wrench will stop MANY mechanical nightmares from ever happening in the first place. If you've been twisting wrenches for years you can get by with the old "wrist" torque wrench, but your best bet always will be the real thing

well now I have done it to a point that Im ready to shot myself in the foot!!!

Last week I was changing out the oil and doin some little upkeep things. When I went to put the oil plug back in, it stripped. So I didnt the next best thing that I thought would work, Over sized drain plug.

well I finialy got my over sized plug and went to put it in today. When I did, all looked good, Felt good and seemed even better. Well hell!! I went and poured in the new oil and low and behold what do I see?

??? a freakin oil leak!!! I freak out. So I climb under the bike and what do I see.......a crack about half an inch long in the pan.

SO now I guess Im either off to find a heli-arc welding somewhere in the Fort Worth area or find some nice soul that would like to sale me a used very cheap oil pan.

Just thought I would vent a little.

Thanks for listining.

So any body got a oil pan laying around thay want to get rid of??

Don't fret Josh. Just go to your local auto parts store and purchase you a package of tank sealer. It works something like JBWeld, but with a slightly different twist. It's a small stick of a clay-like substance that is already pre-mixed. Just take a piece of it, and work it with your fingers like Play-Doh until it turns gray. Place over the crack and let cure/dry. Dries in about two hours, and cures in 12. Resistant to gasoline and oil and can be ground just like JBWeld. Have two friends who have used them... one on a gas tank and one on a crack valve cover. Never a problem. I also used it on my bike when I cracked the gearshift cover and it worked like a charm. Just hit me up if you don't know what I'm talkin' about. I can send you some if you can't find it. I always keep one or two sticks in my toolbox.

Im not as big as you all think I am. I might look big and scary but Im not.

Having the crack sucked. I bet I only put down 10 to 15 lbs of force gettin that plug in there. The old plug pulled out the threads last time I put it in and wouldnt hold for crap so I thougth the new plug would be a good idea......WRONG!!!!

Live and learn I guess.

Hogger, thanks for the heart felt easy let down on my own mistake.

Better luck next time right?

did not mean to offend..but I guess I did. All of us here on this board have read time and time again topics concerning snapped bolts, stripped threads etc.

Just no reason for it. You get a Torque Wrench (birthday/christmas) and I'll email you all the torque specs.

Hows that for a deal. Keep your eyes towards Sears. They have awesome deals at various times and if you have a Craftsman Club Card they will knock off even more. I bought an inch pound, which I highly recommend, for under $50.00 delivered with the sale and what not.

hogger...

Just fix it right and buy a new pan. You just tried rigging the drain plug and look what happened, why would you try to rig the pan now?

Hogger, its all good brother, not problems hear.

Just take it all with a grain of salt.

I know I f`ed up and I can live with it. NJ is taken care of me and its all good. I just killed two weeks of ridding thats all. Hell it was a sign from god that I shouldnt ride in the first place.

Thanks again all.

and Hogger, Ill take you up on the torgue speks email. Im goin to Sears tonight.

unfortunately its too late for you but for in the future
you can drill and tap the pan on the bike (may need right angle drill)
dip the drill bit and tap repeatedly into wheel bearing grease to trap as many shavings as possible
