Attached to what?

There is a fastener just on the inside of my fairing at the edge of my windshield (both sides). I have mirror block offs, and I have the windshield off, and when I take those 2 fasteners off...there is nothing behind them to be attached to anything. Are they just random holes??? Gen 2

If you are talking about the windshield attachment screws, there's rubber nuts that go in there to hold the windshield on...

If in doubt shoot a picture of the area in question.
