Axle complaint

Well this is my fault... I didn't have a TQ wrench to tighten up my axle on the rear. I used my big wrench and tightened it up ... went to adjust my chain today and it doesn't want to come off. It spun on the other side past the block...:banghead: I know it is 72 ft lbs but damn this is a sucky design... just venting some. Gonna try to use my impact to get it off or might have to cut the nut. Am I the only one this happened to? I did find a new axle cheap

Pics? Not sure what you messed up on.

geeez I never tighten it to spec. It's just over kill when you've got a cotter pin in the castle nut. I would just get a longer leverage arm to try and get the nut loose before hammering it with an impact gun.

The nut won't back off on the other side and this side will spin past the block that keeps it from turning...weak aluminum.

You must have tightened it up when it was not seated in the block correctly. Never had this happen one time to me....

You should be able to impact the nut off, I would think

See what happens when you dont call me to help!:laugh:

Gonna need a impact and replace the damaged parts...just how BIG was that wrench that you used ???

Penatrating oil, propane torch to heat the nut, impact wrench, and big adjustable wrench on the other side. Hold the wrench straight in with the other side of the jaws on the front side of the adjuster block, it'll give you some grip for a minute while the impact has a chance to break it free, and hopefully keep the axle from spinning.

Impact didn't work...wasn't strong enough ( cordless ) Tried getting my wife to turn the nut while I held the other side...didn't work ( couldn't hold the axle end tight enough ) So I cut the nut off... waiting for my new parts. I guess I must of stretched the threads last time I tightened it up...

hmm very interesting thread. I had my wheel come loose after a couple hundred kms. This was from the dealer, So I don't know if it was torqued to spec.. but I wanted to always be certain that the wheel does not come off. So is 72ft/lbs enough to hold that power? I am using a pipe on the end of my wrench that came with the bike. I tighten until I can't go no more. Do the same in reverse. I have repeated this numerous times... changing tires, chain adjustments. No problems yet. The axle nut turns freely on and off without any tight spots in the threads.

Damn dude! Call me the next time you want to F up your bike. I can do a really good job:laugh:

If you haven't ordered a new yet, I have one you can have just pay shipping.

The other thing I'd recommend is to get rid of that big a$$ swing arm spool. Those things are notorious for breaking the mounting ear off the swing arm in a crash.
