hmm very interesting thread. I had my wheel come loose after a couple hundred kms. This was from the dealer, So I don't know if it was torqued to spec.. but I wanted to always be certain that the wheel does not come off. So is 72ft/lbs enough to hold that power? I am using a pipe on the end of my wrench that came with the bike. I tighten until I can't go no more. Do the same in reverse. I have repeated this numerous times... changing tires, chain adjustments. No problems yet. The axle nut turns freely on and off without any tight spots in the threads.
No worries if the rear wheel falls off at speed. Any good rider can control a rear wheel slide, even if the rear wheel has fallen off. The key is balance, well, balance and the ability to balance a hyperbike without a rear wheel. Use your feet as much as you can. The MAIN thing to concentrate on is the front wheel. That axle comes off and you're fekked!

No worries?? are you mad? I dont want it to come off ever. Not at high speeds, or when I have precious cargo with me. i would love to see someone balance any bike for that matter with a rear wheel that has just fallen off. Its not even possible.

Er...it was a joke mate!

didn't see the pun there.. but anyways.. never seen anyone strip that nut that bad.

I think what happened was it was over tq'ed and stretched the threads on the axle... so it wouldn't back off. I didn't think I tightened it that tight but something wasn't happy trying to loosen it. I guess I am the first one for this....

Yes, you are a very, very stupid man. I can say this because I have never, ever made such a mistake.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis!

I do think they could of made the block that keeps the axle from spinning a little stronger. If it wouldn't of spun past the block it might of cracked loose...not sure if the threads were bad or not but I will learn from this one....maybe
