bad battery??

Ok, the battery went too low on me again. Looks like I need to get a trickle charger and put it on the bike once a week or so. This is total crap, why would it not have enough juice to charge the battery? I don't usually putz back and forth to work but I would think the alternator would put out enough power to charge the battery. I usually run the high beam during the day which may be drawing the extra power needed to charge the battery. Turning off the high beam doesnt seem like a good solution though since it makes me more visible. Does anyone make an aftermarket alternator that puts out more power?

The Busa doesnt use an alternator but a generator which kicks in like DEZZ said I believe @3500 not no damn 5000rpm
I hate f'n dealer shop tech. Since the bike is a late model it just may be corrosion on the contacts points going into and from the rectifier >>>>>>check there TP.

Thanks Playa, I will double check my rectum and viberator for corrosion

Hopefully it is only corroded or dirty connections.

Besure to wear gloves and cough very loud when poking !!!!!!!!!

I think it was just a bad battery, looks like one of the sealed cells may have popped open. I got a new battery last saturday and I have had no problems so far. I followed the service manual and ran the leak test which showed no draws on the battery and then ran the charging test. It says to test the voltage between the two battery posts with the high beam on, 13.5 - 15 volts is correct @ 5000 RPM. I ran the test at different RPM's just to see what they are.

1000 - 12.5
2000 - 14.2
3000 - 14.3
4000 - 14.2
5000 - 14.2

These are in spec with what the manual says except for at idle which is fine. Looks like I am getting plenty of volts to run the bike and keep the battery charged. The battery was older than 6 months so they would not warranty it BASTARDS!!! Luckily I found a Yuasa on sale for $60 instead of the normal $95.

Rhythm I never did check the connections since I am getting enough voltage. Thanks for the help though playa.

I was having this problem and believe mine was caused by a combination of infrequent and short trips this spring that were not allowing the battery to maintain itself. A battery tender seems to have solved my problems.

Yeah I think that is what toasted mine as well, I live only a few miles from work and I think the short drives at lower rpms (because the bike isn't warmed up until about 2/3 the way to work) caused it to fail. Put it on the battery tender once a week and you don't have to worry about it.

I had a simular problem. Had the electrical system checked at the daeler they said it was ok. Bought a new battery to get to the races it was good and it rained the next 3 days and was dead as a nail. Bought a Battery Tender never had the problem again. But this is the first time I had this problem with a bike ever 20+ years. Mine is an 02 on its 3rd battery.???
