Bad harley crash in sflorida today (pix)

Problem here is that Florida doesn't have any helmet law. So if he was wearing that skid lid he was probably actually trying to be safe and protect his melon. There is a salesman or a parts guy that needs an ass kicking if they sold this guy a freaking DOT CAP for actual protection.

Still it's one of the dumbest things you see here in Washington. All these a55hats and their DOT stickers on their garbage .99 cent helmets think they are REALLY STICKING IT TO THE MAN... Cause THEY CANNOT TELL ME HOW TO RIDE OR WHAT TO WEAR....

No but apparantly marketing and your moron buddies can. Just messed up.

I really hope this guy makes it OK, has to suck.

Actually as destroyed as that helmet is I am willing to bet it was just strapped onto the side of the machine and got crunched under it as it fell. That helmet is WAY to devastated to have been on his head I think.

(PaNDeM1C @ Oct. 23 2006,02:52) As the MSF course says "how much risk are you willing to accept?". In FL there is no helmet law and most HD riders don't wear them, so at least this guy had something on. I'm sure most HD riders think sportbike riders are just a bunch of squids who like to speed. I can accept that. But those pics show that we think HD riders are a bunch of morons who refuse to wear real head protection... and we're right!
This from the guy who only wears a jacket and gloves when he's cold........

Yeah, for simple trips around the block I don't "suit up". But I always have on a full face helmet. And in my post I was talking about helmets... nothing more.

(brendanp @ Oct. 23 2006,09:38) Pan,if you dont suit up....you only got 1 fuk up,and that's it!
You can still call him "Pan" when he has to change his name to Pancake.

I guess your head will still look the same while your skin peels off your torso, legs and hands huh? That's cool.
My point is that for a guy that has been so outspoken about not wearing gear, it seems comical for you to talk sh!t about someone not wearing a helmet.

Sorry. I'm not going to put on a stormtrooper costume to ride down the block. On days where I actually go "riding" I'll put on my armored jacket and gloves. By the time you throw on all of your gear to ride a few miles to get some smokes (or whatever), I'll already be back home relaxing and watching a ball game...

And, as I've said, I've spoken with many people here who don't always go out fully geared. But I'll be the punching bag... it's cool with me.

Not trying to be a dink (I dont havta try at that!) pan,but you 'did' think the kickstand mod was stupid too!!

I dont wanna be reading about you needing a skin transplant. It can happen going to the store for smokes...and guess what? After your skin looks like it wuz cooked in a pot of boiling water, forget about ever getting laid!!!

Wear your gear dude.

I still think the kickstand mod is .... not needed. Since I didn't lower my bike, I'm leaving it as is.

I appreciate the concern. Makes me feel all warm n' fuzzy inside. But I'd be lying if I said I will always wear gear. Maybe it will take something bad to change my mind for simple/small rides. I hope I never have to find out.

At least I'm not riding in shorts anymore... and I actually did buy a jacket and gloves.

(thismonsterlives @ Oct. 23 2006,13:00) kickstand mod might have helped my incident this weekend.
Sounds like being stopped by the cop altered your mindset a little and you didn't take the time to park it right. I've parked my bike on moist ground with wind blowing... still stood up.

If my bike falls in a secure situation where I know that nobody else could have pushed it over... I'd get the mod done.

My ride to work is 3.9 miles at the speed of stoplights, I agree with your assessment.

Besides, there are bicyclists who ride along side me and the lanesplit between me and the Buick in the other lane on their way to running the red light. And they don't even wear helmets.

Actually Rev they have changed it since you were here last.  You don't have to wear a helmet only if you are 21 or older, $10k in insurance and are an endorsed rider (i.e. valid license and passed a qualifying skills test, MSF, etc.).

As someone early on in this string said, at least it makes everyone else relook at what they do and wear when they ride. In that respect, that poor unprotected rider is a lesson to us all. It's true, on average, Harly type riders tend to have less protection on, but we've also seen bikini clad passengers on hi performance bikes as well, and don't forget the new fad of extreme street riding....guys on crotch rockets with tank tops and no helmets. I figure I owe it to my daughters and wife to maximize my safety, and you know what? It doesn't reduce my fun one damn bit. I can't wait until Saturday to go up in the mountains and stay at 80-90% for hours on end. Sitting in the sun with a cup of coffee, talking to riding buddies at the end is fun too, leathers and all.

I'm with pan on this one...I got the gear only to find it in the closet most of the time, wife says "AT LEAST WEAR YOUR HELMET", so that's where its at, long jeans and a wife beater shirt works well together too damn hot otherwise.
i don't seem to have the control when I'm all bundled up like it's winter and I'm gonna freeze to death or something.
I did see afew geared up going to Biketoberfest Daytona I bet yall were hot... I wasn't, it was like 93 degrees....too much heat takes the fun outta the ride. My $.02

I see a big rock on the other side of his bike hope his head dident bounce off that damn, i hate those helmets to

i hope it makes out alright! i've been trying to pursuade my buddy about not wearing those dayum "turtle shells" but he won't listen. apparantly, he doesn't want to look like an idiot on his "fat boy".
