Ballast mounting...

Hey guys, did searching but didn't find an answer to my specific concern.

If I mount the ballasts here permanently, will temperature ever be an issue? Either for the ballasts or the plastics? The ballasts have on them saying they are rated for up to 100 celsius. I am just thinking on hot summer days on traffic, these areas could get very hot.

Any input is welcome, otherwise seems like this area works best for me.

I think some have put theirs there. I put mine on the air tubes, but I didnt pull the nose off.

I thought HeavyBusa did a pictorial, but could not find it.

What are you going to attach it with?

possibly gorilla tape, still have to check out some of the heat tolerances of various two sided tapes, I think I will be able to find something suitable....if I can't find one then I would probably mount them elsewhere, don't really want to screw anything into that area, but could probably use metal mounting straps if I had to

Zip tied to the air intakes is the best IMO.. the plastic pieces that go over them will provide some shielding from the radiation they put out that can affect signals to your cluster, like the speedo etc. You can also put some additional shielding on the backside of the trim pieces if needed.

+1
I used velcro to keep mine stuck to the air tube then zip ties to ensure they don't work off the velcro from vibration, etc.

3m vhb tape for the air tubes. 1"x1" mounting bases for the nose.

My local lowe's does not have this....strongest they have is an outdoor/indoor super heavy duty two side tape.

Where would have the vhb you recommend?

also checked walmart and advanced auto.....no one knows about this.....any idea on local availability? seems a bit ridiculous that its this hard to find

Make sure you run a ground wire directly to the ballast case. It will help isolate some of the RFI from haunting the dash gauges. On mine I sanded the paint off of the area around one of the case screws. I then ran that wire to the fairing stay and tapped a new mounting screw to make sure I had a very good ground close by the ballast. My gauges all seem to be working fine.
