Actualy the recent article about it in the last cycle world magazine states that the engineers sawed off the front triangle from a hayabusa in order to R&D the K1200S front suspension... It targeted the Hayabusa specifically.
The blue and white one looks like it was designed with police service in mind. I can just imagine POLIZEI (sp?) written all over it.
I already posted this on a thread I started about this same bike, but here it is again: Basically it is the magazine, Cycle World, that is targeting the Hayabusa, with captions such as "'Busa beater," "Germany takes on Japan come hell or hayabusa." You are right, they DID cut off a front end of a Hayabusa, but if you read the article, it was for the purpose of testing out a prototype of their front fork, and they didn't have a engine to "propel a motorcycle to competetive open-class sportbike speeds."
If you keep going through the article, what the head of BMW R&D says (not Cycle World) when asked to cite which, if any, competitors' bikes were targeted as reference models, he replied, "The Honda CBR1100XX was the focus. It's passenger-oriented and very usable with some wind protection. With the Hayabusa, the aerodynamics dictate the look, and the Kawasaki ZX-12R looks like a supersport bike, but it's definitely
not a supersport bike!"
I originally thought that this bike was targeting the Hayabusa to compete with, but after thoroughly reading the article and it being pointed out to me, it is clear the it is the magazine, Cycle World, that is trying to stir things up to make it look like its trying to compete with the Busa, since the Busa is the standard by which all are measured.
