I hear ya, I kept it under 5 for the first 50 miles, then bumped 5 a few times up to 6k up to three, now I'm hitting it pretty hard. From what I have read I think the key is to let it completly cool off as much as you can until 1k. I think they are more worried about early engine problems than how the bike will actually perform in the long run.. Look at how they break in race motor's on the dyno.
