BURPING YOUR BIKE WHEN INSTALLING FLUIDS

I'm changing my coolant and I remember a post that said make sure U burp your bike to get rid of your air bubbles. Now when you say burping, what exactly does that mean?? I'm running into problem with my bike temp guage hitting in the red.

Burping is nothing more than making sure that there are no air pockets in your coolant system.

I just did my coolant as well, and was nervous about doing it because of some of the stories about it.

Fill the radiator, put the cap on, sit on the bike and lean it side to side - slowly. Try to keep it leaned over as long as possible to allow the air in the system to work it's way to the top (at the cap). Have someone help by steadying via the grab bar if you need to.

Lean it back and forth a few times, then put it on the kickstand, and take off the cap. You should now be able to get more coolant mixture in it. Do this until there is no more room in the radiator after you remove the cap.

Then start the bike and let it run until the fan kicks on. Let it cool off (overnight), and take the cap off again. If it's still full, you are good to go. If not, just keep repeating the process.

Good luck! (it really isn't that hard, just time consuming)

Okay, I'll try that. So when I get home today and check my radiator and my fuild is low, fill to top and run? and continue to rock left & right.

You don't need to rock it side to side while it's running.

Fill it, rock it, squeeze the tubes, fill it, rock it, squeeze the tubes - repeat until it will not take any more fluid.

Be sure your overflow tank is at the correct (cold) level.

Then run it until the fan kicks on, shut her off, and let it cool. Check the fluid level again.

Repeat as necessary.

Help needed bad!!. Well the problem I'm having now is that my bike is overheating, and my fan is not coming on plus my overflow is filling why to much. It's about an 1 inch from the curved part of the bottle. see pick. I also checked my fan to make sure it works with a 12v pwr supply, and it's good. I also checked the fan sensor relay. and and it's checking out as per the manual. The only other thing I can think of that could be causing it is the temp sensor it self. Is their something I'm missing? or another check to make. I would like to make it too bike nite tomorrow. Help fast!!

you have air in the system. water is not circulating and reaching the thermostat or it overheated bad enough to kill your thermostat. how long was it in the red?

Couple things could be going on. Your fan is apparently working, but your temp switch may be gone. If you have air in the system the bike will run hot. When burping the system you should not have the cap on. In fact, you can run the bike at idle (with the cap off) and squeeze the hoses and you will see an bubbles coming out of the radiator.

I failed to mention that I did the temp sensor relocator mod. And when I checked my fan that was me applying a 12v pwr to the connector and the fan never kick on. Even with this mod the fan should of still came on right??
