Busa engine tuners

I have had several emails to me about who did the head work, engine work etc
on my bike so I thought I would post it here to everyone. I know everybody
has their favorite buddy down the road that used to work at a bike shop etc
etc but these guys are full time pros and I am very happy with the work they
did for me.

The head and valve springs came from KWS motorsports in Charleston SC. You
can reach Kevin at (843) 566-0004. He also has the new Dynojet 250 with fuel
air and load control system. For the heads he uses a Serdi ( not sure about
spelling) I think the dyno setup he has is about $25K. He fields a team of
GSXR bikes in several series and has built numerous Hayabusa engines. He also
came highly suggested to me by Web Cams as he helped them develop the current
grinds offered by them for the busa. On my bike I had only a mild radius
valve job done. Stock size valves and as suggested by Web new valve springs.
If you have the inclination he offers full oversize titanium valves and can
do as much porting and combusting chamber reshaping as you can afford.
Overall I found him to be a little more reasonable that some of the big time
engine guys like Carpenter, Gatlin etc. Those guys are very good too but a
bit pricey too.

For the rest of the engine assembly work, dropping the engine , degreeing the
cams, installing pistons, clutch, valves etc etc I used Doug in Atlanta Ga. He
is member of the list and has also built many busas in the Atlanta area. He
is the quite type so he usually does not say much on the list. But I can
assure you his work is first class and very reasonable. You can reach Doug at
770-907-6330. I did not ask either of these guys if it was ok to post their
numbers so please be serious if you call them. I am sure they are both very
busy this time of year. As they say in dragracing "Nothing to tell but lots to sell"

Frank, does anyone, yet sell higher flowing injectors for heads that flow a lot of air? Do you know what kind of horsepower or airflow the stock injectors can support?

Don, I guess I missed what size motor you had built?

I'm sure since Kevin has a 250 your setup is all dialed in with the pw2?

Do you care to share the Map for your setup?

What kind of hp did your motor end up with?

Did you say that Kevin at KWS helped develope the grinds for the current Web Cams?

I have stock bore Wiseco pistons 13-1 and also stock valves with the new springs from KWS. When I called Web and talked to Laurie I aksed her to give me a suggestion on which company to use for my head work. She said that KWS/ Kevin had done a lot of work with them on the cams. My engine builder wanted to use him anyway so that I why I decided to let them do the porting. SO my understanding was that KWS did testing or something related to the development of the cam.

Me and a friend Ted (also on the hayabusa list from Atlanta) had both of our bikes built exactly the same at the same time. Same pipe, pistons, airbox, springs etc etc. He just spent a day on the Dynojet 250 on Friday at KWS. He wound up with 192hp.
Not bad for a stock bore bike with stock valves I thought. The thing that suprised me on the map kevin worked up was that the timing was actually retarded on the big end and that caused it to pick up a few HP.

I have heard that mechanically efficent engines usually benefit from retarded ignition but never had proof before now.

Thats great Don, for the piston combo you have!

As you know I had a Very large head on My bike. And I'm in the process right now of changing it back closer to a stock head. One with just some street porting and stock valves. I had like over 148cfm and thats proven to be Way Too much for the efi setup. It's nice to know that the head on the Hayabusa has more potential than you need!

Don, your head might be right where it needs to be the way it sits now?(even with larger pistons)

WL, heres your answers:

1. I don't know?
2. I don't know?

But heres a little of what I do know on this subject:

I had some things in the works with Russ Collins, sent My injection system to him so he could bore out My injectors, this was all right after the dealer show in Indy. It then got into a phone tag thing and not returning messages so the stuff was asked to be sent back.
This is what My engine builder tells Me???

Now Russ said that he could get a 20% more fuel flow out of the injectors over stock?
I wanted just 10%.(oh well)

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that Bob Carpenter was working with Russ now on something similar to what I was after?

Also, I tried to checked into some injector stuff with MX Express(Turbo)in Sweden. Had some Big help from Sebastain(N20boy)!
I noticed that they offered a replacement injector with thier Turbos, and I wanted to find out how it differed from a stock one?
I never really found that info out.

I'm being told that there is a car injector from a Honda that will adapt to the Hayabusa?
But you'll have to take that one as hearsay cause I don't have any facts to it???

I kinda lost My drive to the injector R&D for now.

I'm almost ready to pull it off and go to carb's and a Dyna like I've wanted to all along!
I know of someone that is already building this setup now with 41 kehiens...

I don't even think My arm would have to be twisted to get started?!?!

Frank,
Thanks for the info.I thought you made the decision a long time ago to go with carbs,in fact I thought it was a done deal and they were on your bike now.

Are you going to Ohio for the Prostar race, with or without your bike?

Yea...I really wanted to do it but at the time I felt like I would have a hard time getting any support with what I needed to do with a set of Kehiens. And then I thought by the time I was were I needed to be with My motor, surely someone would be on track with this fuel injection, so I wanted to try all My options with it first. But nobody has really stepped up to the plate yet and thats why I'm ABOUT ready to go the carbs & dyna. I have a built Busa with 275 miles....it's getting time for someone else to do this & that, and let Me go riding/racing!
