Suzuki will NOT pay for engine repair due to Cam Chain Tensioner failu

Can you guys describe this noise a little more? I'm not having a problem but I would like to be aware of what I should be listening for. (just in case) I usually pop in earplugs and strap a helmet on before I ever start up my bike so maybe I should rearrange my steps to listen for possible problems when warming up? Does this sound like ticking lifters would on a car or what?

OK the noise happens only in the first start up in the morning when the engine is stone cold, these are the two things that could be; 1. the electronic fuel pump getting gas thur the lines until proper pressure and the noise will go away, this is the same thing that happens on my 98TLR.
2.The chain tensioner is cold and will warm up and self adjust to proper adjustment point!!!
The noise does go away, but it's better safe than sorry, hate to see it let go at 150mph plus.

This tensioner problem. Is it happening on '00 model 'Busas or just '99? I hear that same sound and can't narrow it down. iwas going to wait until my 4K service to have them look at it but I may not wait.

Greetings,
I talked to Mike Scott at the Suzuki Customer Service center, He was real helpful, and Johnny was also helpful.
Suzuki is now going to have my bike repaired, and also replace the cam.
But honestly, If you ever call customer service, and get a guy named Chris, HANG UP, the guy is an *** , try to get Mike to handle it, he will listen and help out.

Hopefully none of the parts are on back order, and the bike will be fixxed soon, I'd like to get out and ride. Thanks to everyone the e-mailed me, and responded to this post, It helpped me out alot.

Peace,
Ranger

The noise is an annoying rattle from the right side of the engine, my hearing could not pin point it. You will hear it mostly just above idling rpm and it goes away once the power is on or after the bike is good and warm. That's why mine got ignored the first time, I just thought it was to do with the warm up. Gradually you notice it taking a longer time to disappear.

BTW. Mine goes back to Suzuki AGAIN this weekend :( Now has a small oil leak coming from between the block and cylinder head.

Glad it is working our Ranger. Who you talk to matters a great deal. I got thwarted twice by the same guy at the Japan office, persistance paid off and managed to circumvent his little area of power.

JC, hey I get to have a Suzuki 250cc Intruder to use this time while they repair it. Any chance of getting the front wheel airbourne on that ? :)

Seriously, told them this is the last time for me, anything after that and it's plan B. If that happens is anyone interested in a complete set of A-Tech carbon fibre cowlings ?

Mike IS A first class GENTELMAN.
If you are nice and polite he is super.
Dazee; you can get the wheel up we don't have them states side but I know what they are you have to almost be on the back seat.
Besides that is a first :A loaner bike!!!!!!

I guess it'll take a little more effort than the Busa :) Will try and get a picture if it works out. Always try to get a loaner out of them, last year it was an SV400 with one of the loudest exhaust systems ever. Now that was fun !

Thanks Dazee - I'll keep an ear open for it. I'm sorry to hear of your most recent problem. At least everything on your bike has been well documented and repairs are made by the Suzuki factory people/engineers themselves.

congratulation Ranger, You won. I was gonna be mighty disappointed if Zuke didn't fix your bike. Heck, Honda has warranted some of our bikes long after the warranty period. Not that i am saluting Big Red. I recommend you get rid of that thingy Zuke calls a timing chain tensioner. Get an aftertmarket one. Sounds like OEM is junk. I havent' replaced mine yet but It won't be long.

I would not recommend the after market unless you know what you are doing it is not as simple as install and forget it like the OEM and I believe he has a warranty and untill that runs out it is out of the question same for extended warranty.
