Hey guys, Im new to the site. First time postin my own topic. Great site and lots of good people on here.
Okay so heres the problem with my bike

Its a 99, pretty much stock other than the sprocket with right over 23,000 miles. Ive had it for two and a half months now. The bike sometimes tends to run good. Rolling on full throttle in first gear will just shoot the front end right up when the bike is running good, now if i turn the bike off and restart it, it will lose most of its power right about after 7K RPM, the bike will still run but it just lags really bad. It doesnt even think about bringing the front end up even under full throttle. Now I did a search on this, and a lot of guys said about the fuel pumps clogging the filter and to check the injectors. I already cleaned all that up about four days ago. I removed the tank, and the fuel pump, pulled the mesh screen out of the tank ( I guess thats the filter, I couldnt find anything else) cleaned that up, made sure all the lines were clean and not kinked when i put it back together, and i also checked the injectors. Initially when i had put the bike back together it was okay for a day or two, but last night it started acting up again.

I turned the bike on and off about three times and then it had its full power back. I did not do a check on the fuel pump to see how much pressure it is pumping. What i dont understand is how it runs fine and then if I shut it off it kills it again pretty much. Im thinking it might be a sensor just because there are so many on this bike.

I got a couple of friends that think they beat me racing on the interstate, so now they are all saying "I beat your busa dude" so im like okay lets see what you can do when my bike is actually running right.

Any input as to where to begin and what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Jump out the deale service plug and check to see if they're any codes. It is located on the left side of your bike between the front and rear seat. 4pin plug with 2 not being used jump it out when you are having the problem and the clock will display a code usually a c-code.

Isn't this site great!

OK grbntwist ill try that tonight or tomorrow morning and let you know what is going on. Thanks for your input man

Now that i think about it, the other night when the bike started to act up, we were sitting around hangin out when my girlfriend wanted to look at the time, so she turned on the key, and it kept showing CHEC, then she said what was that. I told her it was probably like a check engine light that flashes before you start the bike. Now that i think about it, i dont think that CHEC is supposed to always show. I turned on the ignition this morning and it just showed the time.

- So im thinking the little diplay should show me a code, and from there i will be able to tell what it is. I havent had time to unplug the plug and do it. Ill let you know what happens as soon as i do

Sounds like fuel starvation. Check the fuel pressure. If its not at 42'ish get a new fuel pump. There's a string here about that, I think it was posted last month. Is the filter in the tank the only one? My 99 has an aftermarket pump and just one filter (the same in tank filter yours has). I'd call the dealership and ask them if there is a second filter. Good luck-JT

Check for a kink in both the supply line and return line under the fuel tank. If they're pinched it can screw things up.

The 'chec' will show when the ignition is on and the bike isn't running. It is telling you to retract the kickstand and that the oil pressure is low (since the bike isn't running)

thanks for your input turbojonn. Yea the intank filter is the only one i came across, i was thinking it was the fuel pump too, but the thing that got me is that the bike can run fine all night as long as i do not turn it off. Once i turned it off and restarted it, it would mess up again, then i would have to go through a series of shutting the bike off - restarting it, until the it ran like it is supposed too. Im gonna mess around with it tomorrow hopefully if i have some time.

okay i found the white plug. I soldered two wires to a push button switch and mounted it in the trunk. Now whenever i seem to be having a problem all i gotta do is pop the cover off the back and hold the switch and hopefully it will tell me the code. Havent gotten a code yet. All it shows is COO. I dont know if thats a code or not. The bike has been running real good the last couple of days. First day it feels a little of hopefully it will throw me a code.
Thanks grabntwist

No prob, PM sent BTW. IMO its a worth while mod. Make sure if you do get a code or if it starts runnin rough dont shut the bike off carry a key and check it if you can. Heres a pic of mine.

99hayabusa my 02 would hang at 7,000 rpm and it was the fuel pump not the filter. The pump was down to 18 psi. So check the the out put presure.

ok gunnybusa thanks. I know i still need to do a fuel pressure test on it still. Anybody know how much the 99 style exterior pump goes for? Does Suzuki only offer it, or is there also an aftermarket company out there?

thats funny, thats exactly where i mounted my on/off switch for my tail lights, when i wanna become invisuble in the night!

Ok here is an update. The bike is not throwing any codes, but i think the pump finally gave out in it. The bike runs really bad in every gear under full throttle past like 4,000 rpm. If anybody knows of a fuel pump for the 99 busa out of tank, please let me know.

-called the dealer for the fuel pump
- they said $460.
- I told them they are crazy

What kind of aftermarket pump set up can i use on this beast?

Anybody know the Gallon Per Hour rating in the stock pump, and what pressure it is supposed to be pumping at?
