Busa Rear Tire Blow Out

201mph

Bob; I'm glad you were able to ride it out and did'nt get hurt. We're still on for a run down I-44 soon, right? And I feel goofy about complaining about buying a new back tire due to that roofing nail, since at least it went flat AFTER I got home and spared me all the gut check stuff.

Hey 201, I wen't to see a friend that my have cancer and that damm rear tire let loose. I forgot about the nail you had removed from your tire. I'll be checking prices with a part plus buddy in the morning. He's my best friend and promised me a good price. Do you still need the rear tire? If so call me and I'll order 2 of them.

..blew a new Pilot hiting a rock...all the air pissed out in three miles, but I made it home...size of an egg, hit with both wheels! I was leaned way over and lost a good two feet of road! A normal person might have even got a rush! It was mostly a pisser, though...terminated last good ride of season as well as new tire JUST SRCUBBED IN...at least that is all it terminated...back tire got holed...

Good job staying upright, guys. I suppose checking tire pressure isn't enough, a visual inspection of tire tread/surface condition is a neccessity any time you are going to do some real high-velocity riding.

The rock I hit in the San Gabriel Mts. on my 1100 in November didn't ruin my tire, but it bent my rim pretty good. I think it was bigger than the one you hit Hapo, about the size of a softball. I kept it. But I didn't quite stay upright either. Not crashing is a good thing.

Say i'm takeing a survey. I need to replace the rear tire as you know, but looking at the front it also had a 2 inch cut in it. The question is, would you run a dunlop 207 or michlins pilot series. Looking at the book michlins have a YR1 rating for the same tire. What do they mean by the YR1. Need to buy them before the weekend.

OK Bob,good riding, glad you rode it out safe.I always check my tires when doing the weekly chain oiling and tire washing.I scrub the tire down to make sure I have no oil or grim on the tire and I check for nails, glass,or anything that might have been picked up by the tires.I hate to have surprise while leaned over.Tires pumped at 42lbs pressure and still using stock tire, second rear tire and still orginal front tire and I'm at 4600 miles.

I have to say I'm impressed. Keeping a bike upright at 120 without a tire AND not sh!tting yourself shows serious skills & balls. Hope I can manage as well when my turn comes.

great thing your ok. I have had a rear tire blow out at 140+ on my 98' CBR900 rr and it rode out ok...a double headed nail went in double head first...it weaved some but it was controllable....I had to use a plug to get home since I was on my way home from going to the races...no blow outs yet on my busa. My friend on an R1 Last weekend got a blowout slice 3-5" wide at about 135....hit said it weaved quite a bit but he made it also. Have you had a front tire blowout before, I have and it feels like you dropped in a hole and steering is a pain in the rear....great thing your safe, busa on!

It turned out to be a perfect day for a ride. And this day started like all the others, with tire pressure check, a complete tire inspection, oil and anti-freeze check. And with helmet, gloves and leather jacket on, the ride was on. It started with a 191 mph run down to Purcell with no problems. It was just after I stopped at a friends house and now on my way home when the back tire blew out just under 120 mph as I was letting off the throttle. It sounded like the gear box screwed up, or the chain jumped the sprocket. Then was followed by severe tire drag. What really surprized me was how stable the bike was at 120 mph down to stop. I'd like to pass on to you how important a good tire inspection is needed. Even after I completed mine, somewhere during my ride I had a 2 inch cut the the rear tire that finally let loose. Thank God, Suzuki for a great handling bike, and bridgestone for a quality tire. I'm still here to talk about it.

Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Were you running the OEM tire? It happened to me once on my ZX11 at about 110. Nearly shook me into the weeds. Bought new tire and underwear!
